Poorly thought out containment measures may spread Coronavirus

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Poorly thought out containment measures may spread Coronavirus

Unread post by billy.pilgrim »

Let's not make this worse. We will all probably be shocked by the loss of many activities and keeping an open mind to change is imperative, but some of these knee-jerk reactions have unintended consequences worse than the benefits.

I don't mean the stupid stuff like the cruise ship with at least 1 infected person that unloaded 3,877 possibly exposed people in south Florida so they could fly home to everywhere. That fits the Stupid List. This is about the attempted sensible actions that come with a fatal flaw.

Most Florida beaches closed mid-week. Escambia county has made it a misdemeanor to step onto the sand. I've seen pictures of rowdy crowds on beaches and it may be true somewhere but Pensacola Beach and Navarre Beach have been almost deserted except for directly in front of the hotels and big condos, but even at those places people were mostly spread out. There were some who had drawn 10 foot diameter circles around them.

I realize and almost accept losing my walks on the beach, but what about the spring break kids already here? They were mostly practicing social distancing on the beach, but now they are packed into hotel and condo rooms and hallways for the couple of days left on their rental before they scatter across Alabama, Tennessee and more.

As we already know, trump dragging our collective feet has made this far worse than it had to be, so let's make sure that what we do doesn't also make things worse.

Shouldn't the hotels have been closed first, or no new rentals before closing all beaches?

I just read about the pretty extreme measures Alabama is taking. It all seemed probably necessary and effective until I got to the part about daycare facilities limiting the number of drooling snot nosed 3 and 4 year olds to 12 per room and recommending that the 3 and 4 year olds practice social distancing.

12 kids and 2 or 3 adults are going to practice social distancing in a 15 x 15 room.

“Yesterday’s health order was issued to be as comprehensive as possible to combat the spread of the virus and to ensure the state was doing everything within its authority to protect the people of Alabama," Ivey said. “In order to keep Alabama going, we must keep Alabama businesses going to the best of our abilities.

“I fully support the restrictions of social or recreational gatherings of 25 people or less and strongly encourage individuals to maintain a six-foot distance. However, this order was intended to apply to non-work-related gatherings.”

Today’s revised order also expands the availability of child day care in the state as long as certain guidelines are followed, the governor’s office said.

The revised order says day care facilities can stay open as long as 12 or more children are not allowed in a room or other enclosed or separated space at the same time. It says facilities are encouraged to use enhanced sanitation and social-distancing practices"

Yep, you go bammer and floriDuh
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”
