I've been reading a book named "Tightrope" by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn; it's about the growing income and opportunity inequality that's been on a meteoric rise here for the past forty or fifty years. A lot of quotes preface each chapter and after reading these, it made me wish for the days when the GOP was human, patriotic, and sane.
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." President Dwight D. Eisenhower
"Labor is prior to and independent of capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration." From President Abraham Lincoln's first SOTU
Imagine what great things could be done if the current crop of Republicans weren't mesmerized with a cult of lies and ignorance. Being aware of how Southern Democrats held racist beliefs for decades in the early and mid twentieth century, at least the Democrats got better; the Republicans got massively worse over the same time span.
