The Risks Digest should be required reading for any programmer or system administrator or security expert:

It highlights news reports with the unpredicted - and often predicted - problems that pop up with new technology. It's been on Usenet and then the web since 1985.
For example if you were to dig through the archives you'd find three sets of posts:
1) The government is planning to use electronic voting machines. Unless they take these precautions, they will have these problems.
2) So they're not taking these precautions....
3) Aaaaand, there's the predicted problems.
