The Parliamentarian

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The Parliamentarian

Unread post by billy.pilgrim »

Is this going to be another closet republican administration or am I mistaken about dumping the $15/hr minimum wage? And $15 is way below the 1969 minimum adjusted for inflation. (No bill should be passed with this simple calculation, unless you intend for your work to disappear)

Never heard much about the Parliamentarian until wham bam no more minimum wage because She said so.
I looked the woman up. She seemed to favor things bush did and was against parts of the aca.

Silly me, slapping blame around in all the wrong places, as I hear tonight that Kamala could simply ignore the Parliamentarian and it would take 60 votes to enforce the Parliamentarian's opinion.

I hope I'm wrong or that Biden is doing something about this, but it's starting to look like another Obama administration failure.
If he turns his back on the youth who elected him, look for repug majority in the House and a 60 vote majority in the Senate.

She can as Senate presiding officer, but won't. The last time it was done was 40-some years ago. So, extremely rare. The progressives will have other opportunities besides this one bill. Meanwhile, they can beat up Repugs for being fat cat-loving obstructionist worker haters.

Is The Parliamentarian a new series like The Mandalorian?

Are there puppets playing aliens?

I haven't looked up Kamala's words on it. Some House Dems like AOC think this is the right time to reject tradition. However, thanks to Sen Dems Manchin (WV), Kyrsten Sinema (AZ) and maybe others it would be defeated, anyhow. Maybe that's why.

The Parliamentarian must have ruled against the Repugs at least once during Mitch's tenure. Neither Darth Cheney nor VP Q-tip overruled.

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema's thumbs-down on minimum wage vote reminds some of John McCain

Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a Democrat, sided with Republicans and seven other senators from her party to vote down a minimum wage increase amendment to President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill....

The amendment was introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., backed by other progressive senators. He pushed the amendment forward after the Senate's parliamentarian ruled the measurecould not be included. The parliamentarian said the provision raising the wage from $7.25 to $15 by 2025 would have to be removed and considered as a standalone bill or as part of other legislation.

The other Democrats to vote against the amendment were Sens. Chris Coons, D-Del.; Tom Carper, D-Del.; Jon Tester, D-Mon.; Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H.; Maggie Hassan, D-N.H.; and Joe Manchin, W.V. Sen. Angus King of Maine, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, also voted against the minimum-wage amendment.
DE and NH Dems suck, too.

Clearly the thing for us, especially those of us in red states, is to get out and organize so that we can put Congress back on track.
