Here's the ones for California. Refreshing that none of them restrict voting, outlaw abortion, or require citizens to endanger their families from covid.

Thanks for posting those new laws. I haven't had time to read them all, but from what I've seen it looks like a major improvement. It makes me even more thankful to be living in California.

Well, for one thing I have to wait until November to break the law against giving someone in a voting line a bottle of water. So depending on what the new laws are each year, some years are tougher than others to go through the list violating each one. My favorite year was 1968, the year the federal government outlawed LSD.

Yeah, that ban on watering the voting line was a bit much. WTF?

As for LSD: Recommended for only outside US territorial limits. And even then...

Not that anybody likely cares, or should, but this list is what one state legislature has been doing while others , whose names shall not be mentioned, have been spending their time on vote suppression, gay-bashing, transgender abuse, abortion banning, and education destruction.

COVID-19 Misinformation

AB 2098 makes it easier for the state's medical board to punish doctors who spread COVID misinformation.

But, there will probably be 1A challenges.

Gender-Affirming Health Care

SB 107 was introduced as part of an effort to make California a sanctuary state for transgender health care. The law shields transgender individuals, including youth, from legal action from other states with bans and restrictions.

Jaywalking Decriminalized, In Most Cases

Cross with caution, but possibly without a citation. AB 2147 outlines when jaywalking offenses can be enforced. Gov. Newsom vetoed the bill in 2021, but later relented and agreed with arguments made by its author. The law makes an exception if "a reasonably careful person would realize there is an immediate danger of a collision with a moving vehicle."

My one and only jaywalking ticket ever was in Westwood on a weekend evening in a pedestrian version of a speed trap. The cops created an impediment that forced some of us to jaywalk.

Reproductive Rights and Abortion

Bills that were part of a package covering abortion care and birth control go into effect next year. That package includes protection from criminal and civil liabilities in cases of miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, or perinatal death due to causes that occurred in utero. Another bill in the package prevents a health care provider from releases medical information about an individual seeking abortion care in response to a subpoena or request from outside the state. The package includes a bill that prohibits law enforcement and California corporations from cooperating with out-of-state entities about a lawful abortion in California. A measure expanding birth control access also was part of the broad package.

Auburn University has begun to block TikTok on university WiFi and has warned employees not to install the app on school-issued phones and devices.

On Wednesday, Seth Humphrey, an IT manager of service delivery at Auburn University, sent a notice that TikTok users would not be able to access the app on university WiFi or on-campus housing.

The university last posted to TikTok on its official account on Dec. 2. It’s not clear what the memo might mean for popular university, athletics and influencer accounts across the state.

I'm not a TikTok user (sometimes viewer maybe, but not user), but as you noted, there are legit uses for the platform that aren't kids doing stupid dangerous stunts.

But without reading the actual memo, it looks like the school could maintain its accounts with somebody using a non-school-issued phone. Which brings up a question - do many organizations issue phones to be used separately from personal use? I know way back in the day when phones were very expensive and minutes were like gold that there were a lot of restrictions on use. But it looks like now nobody would want or need to carry around two or more phones.
