While y'all are bickering about guns...

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

So, where's the NRA and their "absolute" on this one?
Merry Christmas. <sigh>

Wayne Lapierre just held a press conference and suggested that every firetruck in America have its own sniper to protect firemen from such shootings.

Oh, yeah. And people should buy a lot more guns.

firefighters should only respond after swat teams have secured the area

oh yeah, and they should all be armed in case the swat team missed a "bad guy with a gun"

more guns has far and away outperformed 42 as the universal answer

Since there's bickering about guns, what's the answer here?

A good intelligent reply if I ever saw one. I'll ask the question again, more slowly. Maybe youll pick up on it this time.

Was that too fast for you?

For the NRA, at least ...

Nice, Billy, thank you.
I'd prefer 42 be the answer indeed (no reference whatsoever to caliber - or is that "calibre" ... dunno, I don't talk the lingo and don't want to - , of course) ...

There are 4 other threads discussing it.
If you want to call them 'discussions'; but thanks, I'll check them out anyway. Blame this one on k9nanny! :D

I asked the question because I've yet to find where anyone had a clear cut answer as to how would be the best way to handle the gun situation in America. The other threads are just a jumble of name calling, (like pilgrim's juvenile reply above) or macho knowledge of different types of firearms.

Again, I'll ask the question; does anyone have a clear cut answer on how to handle the gun situation in America? It appears to me that those in these forums who trump Constitutional Rights at every turn seem to make a 360 degree turn on gun rights. With senseless killings constantly being in the news, that seems to ignite a furor to say "let's take the guns and the killing will stop".

If law-abiding citizens give up their guns, who then, is going to have guns?

A well-regulated militia? ... imagine that!
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

How about discussing the fact that this scum bag was on the street after serving only 17 year for beating his 92 year old grandmother to death with a hammer rather than 6 feet under. After that we might touch on the fact that this convicted felon was in possession of firearms which is ILLEGAL.

No one, outside a "well regulated militia," should have a gun. Simple.

The term militia (pron.: /mɨˈlɪʃə/),[1] or irregular army, is commonly used today to refer to a military force composed of ordinary citizens[2] to provide defense, emergency law enforcement, or paramilitary service, in times of emergency without being paid a regular salary or committed to a fixed term of service. It is a polyseme with multiple distinct but related meanings. Legal and historical meanings of militia include:

Defense activity or service, to protect a community, its territory, property, and laws.[3]
The entire able-bodied population of a community, town, county, or state, available to be called to arms.

Seems like a militia is composed of ordinary citizens. Now what?

That's right DooHickey. Blame it on me. All the bickering and rhetoric and semantics aren't going to answer your question. As long as we remain alienated and disconnected, people are going to go whacko and act on it. How you gonna fix that?

I'm waiting for daylight. It's a Christmas tradition for the nut jobs down the road to make a joyful noise with their semi and fully automatic play purties.

Merry Christmas.

With any luck, they'll sever the overhead electrical cables which will then fall upon them and bring them instant clarity at the speed of light, as well as taking some potential wackos out of the picture. Merry Christmas to us all. Seems to me the issue of nuts and guns will come down to either 1. get rid of the guns or 2. get rid of the nuts. The rational concept of preventing access to guns by nuts will continue to be overlooked and marveled at from every corner.

I agree; partially. A solution may be found and it will take a long time. In the maentime, the killings will continue; for want of money, drugs, fame, or in revenge. I still believe though that if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have the guns.

Norway, for instance, has strict gun laws Wikipedia but that didn't stop that maniac from slaughtering those kids at the camp. To top it off, Norway is so damn liberal, they don't have the balls to impose the death penalty in cases like that.

Until countries begin to enforce severe punishmnet for gun-related crimes, including death penalties for murder, no amount of regulation is going to be effective. Punishment must be swift, or like now, the scumbags will have no fear of the law.

Seems they would create more room for those "nonviolent drug offenders" so scum like Spengler would not be released after 17 years. Oh wait...stiffer punishments would mean Spengler would be DEAD and two firefighters would still be alive.

By the way since we have so much trouble with prison room now what are we going to do after guns are banned and we have "nonviolent gun offenders" (owners) being placed in prisons???

Two responses and two dodges of the question. However, I will rephrase the question. Since we have so much trouble with prison room now what are we going to do after guns and or high capacity magazines are banned and we have "nonviolent gun offenders" (owners) being placed in prisons???
