Re: The TV Thread
If anyone is into documentaries, I highlight suggest Trailer Park Boys. It follows the lives of several average Canadians as they try to make ends meet in a nation downtrodden by socialisms. Despite the occasional laughs, it really paints a despondent picture of what happens to the inhabitants of a once great nation once they abandon morals and embrace decadence. R.I.P. Canada.
You aren't doing it wrong if no one knows what you are doing.

Re: The TV Thread
A film about a fictional trailer park can't exactly be classified as a documentary. In fact, the original movie and the series spin-off are both classified as "mockumentaries."JTA wrote:If anyone is into documentaries, I highlight suggest Trailer Park Boys. Classic. I tried that "30 second" thing on my wife; she was not amused.Vrede wrote:Edith Bunker has finally been stifled . . . but it took them 90 years to do it. I still remember the menopause episode/s, and so much more.

I've never thought Colbert was particularly funny. I always thought he tried too hard or something. I think they could have picked someone else instead; John Stewart for one. Or, get this.....Sarah Palin. Can you imagine? It would turn into a new religion. woohoo

Re: The TV Thread
I thought about watching but it looks like one of those series that one has to watch all of in order to keep up. Is that correct or do the episodes stand alone well? I don't DVR, I know I would end up watching more TV than is healthy.

I would contend it's not the TV that's unhealthy, but the pizza and chips. I'm pretty sure any TV watched while on a treadmill or in a plank position is probably healthy.Vrede too wrote:I thought about watching but it looks like one of those series that one has to watch all of in order to keep up. Re: The TV Thread
I didn't mean just physically unhealthy, nor that it necessarily applies to others, just that I know how I would be if I could record any program from any channel. Hence, no DVR.
Besides, sometimes "third world" is a good thing.

The episodes are in series, and do not stand alone, but you can watch them online http://www.nbc.com/american-odyssey/videoVrede too wrote:I thought about watching but it looks like one of those series that one has to watch all of in order to keep up. First episode is Gone Elvis. You should try it and see if you like.

One of my early TV crushes, RIP.
I wonder if Kirk hit that.

The implication was that Kirk hit every female of any species and even some nonhumans where the sexuality was indeterminate.

IMNVHO. "third world" is never a good thing with regard to tech, even somewhat primitive tech like DVRs. To me, it's worth having a DVR just for the occasional time I'd rather be outside when the game is on, or when two things I like to watch are on at the same time, or just to be able to scuttle the ads.Vrede too wrote:I didn't mean just physically unhealthy, nor that it necessarily applies to others, just that I know how I would be if I could record any program from any channel. But Mrs. O Really and I do enjoy TV. The house is kinda like a sports bar, with a TV in the bedroom, the kitchen, and the deck, plus the big-screen home theatre set-up in the den. We don't actually sit there and watch a lot - mostly between 8-10 at night and Sunday football - but it's on a lot. Much of the time we're watching, we're multi-tasking with something else. We like shows like Scandal, Good Wife, NCIS, Modern Family, and some semi "reality" like Survivor. Mrs. O Really likes Downton Abbey and the other British shows on PBS. We like sports - football, golf, American Ninja. We also have the big-screen hooked up with a laptop to play stuff from online, Netflix, yada. The thing is, we may enjoy our TV, but because of TiVo, it doesn't interfere with our living our real lives and doing the things we like to do. We don't neglect exercise, friends, days spent in the woods, home chores, whatever. We do what we want and let TiVo deal with the TV schedule. Then we watch what we want, when we want - if we want. I don't find any of that a risk to our health, mental or physical. And if it is, to hell with it - everybody has to die from something.

Netflix to stream Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Canada — and nowhere else
Well, then. THIS is certainly a change from the usual.
