My relationship with Hillary is one of the reasons I have a hard time understanding Trump supporters. I was Team-Hillary from back when Bill ran the first time. My "mental" vote for Bill was really a vote for Hillary. I voted for her for real when I could, and I voted for her in 2016. But I see now that (a) there was a lot more Hillary-hate around than I knew, even among Dems and Semi-Dems, and (b) she really made some serious campaign mistakes, particularly taking the Rust Belt for granted. Result: I don't want her anywhere around the 2020 campaign and I think she should go away and play with the grandkids or do something off the national political stage. As much as I have supported her, it's time to move on. That's what the Trumpers should do.

I thought of "because of" but I doubt that's the case in bright red Louisiana. I think they had a guv they liked (over 50% approval and +18 rating) and didn't buy into Trump's obvious "far left" lies nor saw any advantage to voting for Governor to "support Trump." Trump always tries to make everything about himself, and more and more frequently it's not working.

I enjoy a "fuck-off Repugs" attitude for fun, but it probably does more harm than good overall. I enjoyed "basket of deplorables" too, but it probably cost more in driving haters to the polls than any value it got in entertaining those who were already voting for her.

Pete's gayness may be no more than JFK's Catholicism - something to hit him over the head with, but ultimately not disqualifying - or it could be the difference that gets him thumped. Other than as electoral baggage, I've got no problem with Pete's being gay. I've got more of a problem with his lack of big-time experience. He's probably the smartest and best educated candidate, and he has the navy service on his resume, but mayor of South Bend as his only political experience? South Bend with a little over 100K population (excluding the suburbs that aren't part of his mayoral jurisdiction). Better than Wasilla, but still. If he'd been mayor of Chicago or maybe even Indianapolis, I'd feel a lot better. Or if he'd had some federal experience. Same argument I guess applied to the original Clinton - Governor of Arkansas - Arkansas, seriously? But at least Arkansas is allegedly a state. And to some degree Obama, as a first-term Senator. But why aren't we tired of lightly qualified candidates? If we weren't before Trump, we should be now.

Only 100K? I didn't know. That is pretty small. He probably knows the names of the spouses and kids of most city employees.

Yeah, it's a case that will be made if he stays strong. In contrast, one can argue that managing a small city for a few years is more relevant to the job of POTUS than decades of being a federal legislator, or failing at so many businesses after being born with a silver spoon. Ultimately, a successful POTUS may be more about who is likely to be hired into an admin.

Depends on what was done during the years as a federal legislator. Significant accomplishments in a position of leadership ought to count. In my fantasy election, would I take P-Lo or Pete?

Sounds like a misunderstanding but if Buttigieg or his people took advantage, shame on him/them. Sincere contrition is in order, regardless.

Some Dems, and not just progressives, aren't happy with Obama, either with what he said or the fact that he's saying it.

Leaving aside content, I think Obama serves himself, the party and country better by speaking out on everything but internal party differences. I would feel this way - almost as much - if he'd come out in support of the progressives. Others are making the same case, and always have among Dems, and he shouldn't divide his fan base.

2020 California's 25th congressional district special election

The jungle primary will happen on March 3, 2020. If a candidate receives more than 50% of the primary vote, they are automatically elected and the runoff election is cancelled, otherwise the top two vote getters in the primary advance to a runoff election on May 12, 2020. The winner of the special election will finish the remaining balance of Hill's term in the 116th Congress. A separate jungle primary and general election on March 3, 2020 and on November 3, 2020 respectively will determine the representative for the 117th Congress.

Candidates

California uses a jungle primary system in which all candidates run in a single primary regardless of political party. In regular congressional elections, the top two vote getters in the primary advance to a runoff election regardless of party affiliation or vote tally.
