Re: The Music Thread
Yeah, I had a hard time with the questions, too. Even looked up "top songs of 2019" to see if I recognized some, and hell I didn't recognize the names of most of the performers. I've always enjoyed music of most genres, and it made be wonder how it is I've become so ignorant of current music. Easy answer, I suppose - no radio. Way back in the day, radio stations played music and told you the name of the song and artist. And for a while after "Video Killed the Radio Star" there was MTV. Now the only time get music tracks is whatever they play at the gym, so even if I hear something I like, I have no idea what it's named or who did it. I don't really care for rap or most rappers and that seems to be pretty dominant for a while. So where does one learn about music anymore? Streaming from somewhere like Pandora or I Heart Radio? Life's hard being a geezer.

Maybe you should install Sirius Xm on the rig. I have it in my car and really like it.O Really wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 11:52 amYeah, I had a hard time with the questions, too. Yeah, the coach and the car have satellite radio installed, but I don't have a subscription. Maybe I should get one. It would be hard to resist staying on channels with things I already like, though. What do you usually listen to for new stuff?

Re: The Music Thread
Sirius offers a limited package for $6 a month for a year, well worth it. The only thing I don't get that I actually care about are some sports channels, don't get all the NFL or MLB games. Great music channels, as well as news channels. There's also comedy channels.
I usually just tune in to the Pandora channel for today's music, if not I'm usually on the 80s, 70s or vinyl channel. There's another station I like coffee house, which is primarily acoustic with a lot of recent hits and old hits redone in acoustic mode.
Don't know if I could actually tell you the names of the artists, I just know when I like it.

Understood. I think for me, the song of the year would probably be Alice In Chains Shame In You. Or Deftones Be Quiet and Drive. Neither released this year, but both match the vibe of this shit year.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 8:31 amIt's been decades since I've been able to provide a candidate for either of those because during my high schools years or just after, this is just some of the music that was being released:
Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven
Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
Beatles Sgt. Pepper
Beatles Abbey Road
Beatles Let it Be
Derek and the Dominoes Layla
Bob Dylan Nashville Skyline
The Who Who's Next
The Who Quadrophenia
Moody Blues Nights in White Satin
Plus, pretty much everything by Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Allman Brothers (with Duane and Gregg), and Jefferson Airplane.
Hope you can understand
For the decade, for me, either Pink Floyds "Any Colour you Like", or Lucines "Just a Cloud"

Great list, add a little more blues and it's perfect.
I think the song that caused the biggest reaction with me (could have been the last decade) wasn't even similar to the music I mostly listen to and the only song I've heard from the Flobots. I Can Ride a Bicycle or some such similar title came out during lil Bush's lie up to war.

Re: The Music Thread
Thanks. No blues on that list since the list was what was current at the time. There was back then John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers but their stuff didn't make the popular stuff like on the list above. Hell, It's been decades since I've watched the American Music Awards; last time I did I didn't know any of the nominees or even the winners.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 5:38 pmWhack9 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 3:54 pmUnderstood. Being a fossil like the others, I don't have an answer to the questions, though in honor of Whack9 I would add Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin's harder stuff to neoplacebo's list.

Here's one view. I've not heard of hardly any of these people, but I'll go through the list and listen. I don't have high expectations for some of them, though.
What do you think about these, Whack9?

I tried that with some, different list, avoiding the rap. I learned that Mandy Moore is back, Kesha is political and Ariana Grande has a potty mouth, but none of the songs blew me away and I gave up.O Really wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 12:53 pmHere's one view. Found it. I only missed the decade by 2 years and the title by all of the words.
The title to this 2008 song is Handlebars.

Re: The Music Thread
Well, #1, Young Thug's "The Way it Is" did not impress. Standard rap, with lyrics:
Ooh-woo, diamonds peek-a-boo
Ooh-woo, I done fucked the crew
Ooh-woo, I done did the robbin'
I done did the jackin', now I'm full rappin'
I put on my brothers, I put on my bitch
Had to wear the dress, 'cause I had a stick
You know where the bag at? Tell me where it is
I came from rags to riches, I'm the shit
I can no longer disguise it, bitch, 'cause I'm rich
I got cars galore, lil' bitch, 'cause I'm rich
I escaped every one of the licks, 'cause I was supposed to be rich
I don't care nothin' 'bout no cop, I'm tellin' you just how it is
#2 Joshua Abrams and Natural Information Society
Reminds me of musicians tuning their instruments, maybe good background with a decent buzz.
#3 Theo Parrish, Maurissa Rose, 'This Is for You'
Talented singers, but a bit howly and repetitive for me.
#4 Diplo, Cam, 'So Long'
Decent country song by generic female country singer, but it's surprising it got rated so highly.
#5 Billie Eilish, 'Xanny'
One of the few artists on the list I had heard of, but this one is pretty much a stoned-looking girl rambling. Good voice, though.
#6 Xanman, 'Foulin the Plug'
Standard rap by a fat black guy on a tractor.
This isn't going well. I think I'll get Alexa to play "Take it to the Limit"

Grace Slick Vocals Isolated - White Rabbit
"Even cooler and more powerful than you'd imagine!"
I agree.
Comments:
Wow. Take that you fake, plastic, auto tuned bitches.
Here we are, November 1, 2019 and Grace turned 80 years old two days ago. Put THAT in your hookah and smoke it.
This is precisely how i sound in the shower.

If this doesn't give you goosebumps head to toe you're dead inside

This is why the ancients warned about Sirens.....
When there was hype about Mariah Carey's "8 Octave Vocal Range" an interviewer asked Grace, "How many octaves is your voice?"
"I don't know, two I guess "yelling and screaming'.

Everyone needs to remember that she is also the lyricist. A TRULY GREAT SONG written and sung by a goddess. Thank you, Gracie.
Raise your hand if you come back and listen to this like once a month.

I never comment on anything...... but that was spectacular
