Trump at War?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

So I doubt Iran is going to come directly at us, they just don't have the capital.

I'm sure cyber attacks will now be on the rise, but I guess where they could really hurt us the worse is in oil prices. I wonder if that isn't the kind of soft retaliation we'll see.

I also wonder if this might be a catalyst for younger people to get out and vote.

Sanders, Khanna introduce legislation to block funding for a war with Iran

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) on Friday introduced legislation that would block funding for any offensive military force in or against Iran without prior congressional authorization....

Saddam would not have let that Iranian General anywhere near the Baghdad airport and he'd not put up with any of this other Shiite either.

That says it all this time.

Imagine if we had helped Mosaddegh establish democracy rather than help piss-Shah’s murderous regime.

But I reckon one way to claim greatness is to harm the competition. Sorta a randi paul philosophy. Didn’t he brag at a graduation speech that he would furnish other students with bs about exams so they would fail and he could take advantage of scales grades?
Yes he did. The sack of shit bragged to students that lying helps achieve your goals

Can't believe this is even a question.

Was the drone attack on Iranian general an assassination?
Who knew that "America First" meant killing English?
Tucker Carlson Comes Out Against Trump’s Iran Strike

... “Washington has wanted war with Iran for decades,” Carlson said. “They still want it now. Let’s hope they haven’t finally gotten it.”

During his show on Thursday, the Fox News host laid out the ways that Soleimani had destabilized the region and helped encourage attacks on the U.S. But he also argued that war with Iran was pointless, saying the benefits of conflicts in the Middle East have been mostly “nonexistent” and have “turned out to be longer, bloodier, and more expensive than we were promised.”

“No one in Washington is in the mood for big-picture questions right now,” he said. “Questions like: Is Iran really the greatest threat we face? And who’s actually benefiting from this? And why are we continuing to ignore the decline of our country in favor of jumping into another pointless quagmire, from which there’s no obvious exit?”

Carlson largely avoided criticizing Trump directly. But he singled out many of the administration’s current and former national security hawks, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former National Security Adviser John Bolton. He also admonished Sen. Ben Sasse, mocking the senator’s statement that the circumstances leading to Soleimani’s death were “very simple.”

“Soleimani was a bad guy. But does that make killing him ‘very simple?’” Carlson said. “Of course not. Nothing in life, and certainly not killing is ever ‘very simple.’ Any politician who tells you otherwise is dumb or lying.” ...
Wow.

Comments:
there is no light at the end of this tunnel 20 years ago nor 20 years from now - one contractor dead, many more service people will perish in near future
"Fox Business Network host Stuart Varney went further, repeatedly asking guests how Trump could possibly be impeached during a military crisis." - That must be Trump's logic too, which is pretty scary, because it guarantees more military crises to come.
Wait, is Tucker Carlson making sense?
Remember when presidents used to have the best and brightest advisors, and not tv personalities running the administration. That was awesome.

This is stunning - #Iraq prime minister tells parliament US troops should leave. Says @realDonaldTrump called him to ask him to mediate with #Iran and then ordered drone strike on Soleimani. Says Soleimani carrying response to Saudi initiative to defuse tension when he was hit.
Supposedly the outgoing Iraqi PM said he was asked to mediate with Iran, and General Soleimani was in Iraq for the mediation.

I guess this will all be confirmed later, but supposedly the journalist reporting it confirmed it from the Iraqi PMs speech.

I guess if true, then that's pretty messed up as for as international diplomacy and credibility of the US goes.

That would be zip nada zilch less than none as long as Trump is in office, and will have to be hard-earned after he's gone.

Or, the illegal assassination was not about terrorism at all. Rather, it was deliberately to prevent improved relations between Iran and Iraq.

And the very happy coincidence that we're not talking about impeachment and Cheetohead is under the delusion he will be some type of hero as a wartime president.

Yeah, I meant the particular target. It's a given that this is primarily an impeachment distraction and sleazy election ploy. It's being reported that an armored golf cart is under development so that he can personally lead us to victory.

Iraq’s parliament has voted to expel the U.S. military from the country.

Lawmakers voted Sunday in favor of a resolution that calls for ending foreign military presence in the country. The resolution’s main aim is to get the U.S. to withdraw some 5,000 U.S. troops present in different parts of Iraq.

The vote comes two days after a U.S. airstrike killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani inside Iraq, dramatically increasing regional tensions.

The Iraqi resolution specifically calls for ending an agreement in which Washington sent troops to Iraq more than four years ago to help in the fight against the Islamic State group.

The resolution was backed by most Shiite members of parliament, who hold a majority of seats.

Many Sunni and Kurdish legislators did not show up for the session, apparently because they oppose abolishing the deal.

Even Bush and Cheney weren't stupid enough to take out Soleimani. The potential consequences are a surprise to no one except Cheetohead.

This whole thing is surreal and certainly doesn't give off warm fuzzies for a happy ending.
