Can't make this (stuff) up

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Feral cats were used to drive the birds into the turbine.
:D

Correction and update: This was one of the new bird-friendly wind turbines. It took out 15 feral cats when it crashed.

NY cats don't have time to worry about birds - they're running from the rats.

Cats Are No Match for New York City’s Rats
Despite popular wisdom, rats are too big and too fierce for cats.

... But the results from the Brooklyn recycling plant are far less flattering to cats: They are absolutely lousy rat-killers. Over a period of five months, the motion-triggered cameras captured just two successful kills. And this was in a place crawling with rats; the population was estimated at around 150. The cameras captured 20 other stalking attempts and one other failed attempt to kill a rat.

These results actually match what rat experts have been saying all along: Cats are not a good way of controlling city rats. The felines are excellent at catching mice, but adult rats grow 10 times as big as mice. And rats are fierce. “Once rats get above a certain size, rats ignore cats and cats ignore them,” says Gregory Glass, a professor at the University of Florida who has studied cat and rat interactions in Baltimore. “They’re not the super predator that folks have thought them to be.” But the misconception persists.

(Video: A rat scurries past a cat in a New York recycling plant)

Feral cats also bring their own problems when they’re introduced to an area. They spread diseases like toxoplasmosis. They also kill smaller wildlife. “Cats are opportunistic predators,” says Christopher Lepczyk, a wildlife biologist at Auburn University ( what are the odds?) who studies feral cats. They’ve been observed to eat everything from crayfish to turtles to bats. Most controversially, they kill birds. Most birders hate feral cats.

... “I see cats and rats eating out of the same trash piles,” he (Jamie Childs, a researcher at Yale) told me on the phone.

“At the same time?” I asked.

“At the same time.”
If only they could use bobcats . . . they could get rid of the rats and the feral cats.

Politician who warned about driving drunk is charged with it

VICTOR, N.Y. (AP) — The top Republican in the New York State Assembly was charged New Year's Eve with driving while intoxicated in his state-issued vehicle, just a week after he wrote a newspaper column warning citizens against getting behind the wheel drunk.

Brian M. Kolb, a Republican from Canandaigua who represents a district just outside Rochester, was arrested near his home after what he called a “lapse in judgement."

Authorities said they were called to a crash in Victor just before 10:30 p.m. after a vehicle ran into a ditch. Kolb was found to be the driver of the 2018 GMC Acadia that crashed in front of his home.

An Ontario County sheriff's deputy administered field sobriety tests, which Kolb failed, before taking him to jail....

On Christmas Eve, Kolb wrote a column in the upstate Daily Messenger newspaper that warned against driving while under the influence of alcohol during the holidays, and acknowledged December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month....
Given that no one was injured, this would be just about as funny to me if it was a Dem.

It's being reported elsewhere that the local field sobriety test consists of being asked to pronounce "Canandaigua".

Comments:
'Kolb was found to be the driver of the 2018 GMC Acadia that crashed in front of his home.'

Almost made it.
Reminds me of (billy.pilgrim's) Florida congressman Matt Gaetz. Arrested in 2008 for DUI. Refused field sobriety and breathalyzer tests. His daddy was a state senator and made it all go away. He also had 16 speeding tickets between 1999 and 2014.

Do you own a vehicle, let's hope not for other drivers safety. They're safe while you're at home on the Google.

Back in the day, I was a prolific drunk driver and never was caught or caused an accident. There were times I had to use only one eye; had I ever been held to account over all this, it would rise to the level of a UN Security Council meeting, as I engaged in this behavior in more than one country. Fortunately, the statute of limitations on drunk driving is measured in hours instead of years.

No accidents, at least not while drunk, but I did get caught once. The cop just made a passenger drive. I was lucky to go to college back in the 'catch and release' days.

Save that plate; it's perfect for just one slice of pizza and it and its friends would also be handy in beating off some intruder or just menacing some Jehovah's Witnesses. Could also be used as a suicide plate if needed. Neighbors that see it will be envious.

Don't get excited; those plate shards will not serve as a high velocity assault item. Their more practical use would be threats and jerky movements on the Jehovah's or a close up assault on the carotid artery, side torso, or underarm of an adversary. The fact that the shards are white is also a plus; good contrast with the blood and you'll be able to see more of what you're doing.
