Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Funny-ish story, but not true.

"Predictably, no news media local to Jacksonville, Florida, reported any such occurrence on 27 May 2017 (or at any other time). Border Herald is one of many regional fake news sites, very few of which carry disclaimers warning readers that their content is untrustworthy.

In August 2017, the similarly fake Jackson Telegraph web site published the same story, simply changing the location from Jacksonville, Florida, to Jackson, Mississippi."

Florida Governor Spreads Dangerous Falsehood About Who Dies From Coronavirus

… “This particular pandemic is one where, I don’t think, nationwide there’s been one single fatality under 25, for whatever reason, it just doesn’t seem to threaten, you know, kids,” DeSantis told educators during a meeting about distance learning during the pandemic.

However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports on its website that one infant and four people aged 15 to 24 are confirmed to have died from the disease in the U.S. The deaths of infants in Illinois and Connecticut have also reportedly been linked to COVID-19.

DeSantis’ response to the virus has drawn widespread outrage. He delayed a statewide lockdown to control the spread of the illness and allowed large loopholes for churches and businesses to continue operating. On Wednesday, he wore one glove during a news conference and repeatedly touched his face and clasped his hands together, essentially negating any protection the glove may have given him....

I wonder if the idiot told them how many people "older than 25" have had serious effects from the disease after picking it up from one of these
"(unthreatened), you know, kids"

What part of "highly contagious disease" does he not understand? Oh wait...nevermind.

So what he would be doing would be to ask teachers, at ages 25-65 or so, to stand in front of a group of coughing, sneezing, speaking Covid carriers, totally vulnerable to catching it and not even know who's in the class carrying because the "unthreatened" students have no symptoms. How fucking stupid can one person be? Oh wait...nevermind.

DeSantis’ Religious Exemption Will Kill—And it Violates the 1st Amendment

If Governor DeSantis doesn’t rescind the worship exemption in his ‘Safer at Home’ order, Floridians will die. His pair of executive orders forces all localities, regardless of how overwhelmed their medical facilities are or how many people are infected, to allow large gatherings in churches. This worship exemption is triply problematic....
Idk about the constitutional issues and the broader public health implications suck for everyone, but I otherwise support DeSantis' efforts to kill off believers, especially since the ones that still gather will be heavily weighted to Christian cons  .

The Costly Toll of Not Shutting Down Spring Break Earlier

... Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, has blamed travelers from New York, Europe and other places for seeding the virus in the state. But the reverse was also true: People got sick in Florida and took the infection back home....
DeSantis should be locked up for mass murder. If Florida won't do it, other states should charge and extradite him.

Yet Georgia and South Carolina beaches remain open. And what about the responsibilities of the event organizers and the participants themselves?

Shame on them, especially if people are gathering in large numbers.

Agreed, but the article also discusses how they were getting mixed messages from "leaders" like DeSantis.

I don't like DeSantis - not even a little. At that time, only Calif and Washington had it right. Even the CDC still had it wrong (according to the article) on 3/1. So why would you call hysterically for a charge of mass murder?

He made a bad call and people died, but still a call no different than all other repugs before and after and not so much different than made by nearly all dems.

Just a big over the top whine about barn doors long after the horses got out.

I thought that it was pretty obvious hyperbole, and that you would appreciate it since you were also condemning Florida's inadequate actions during Spring Break. Sorry.

Not sure why you are calling fl gov mass murderer but your own state governor hasn't closed any beaches.

Not exactly. If he made a bad call based on a reasonable analysis of the information he had, fine - shit happens. But Newsom and Inslee didn't wait for Trump to tell them what to do, which is what DeSantis said he did. And DeSantis had several conditions that didn't apply to most of the country, which he should have considered. Like knowing he was going to get a huge influx of rowdy spring breakers into a state with a lot of at-risk residents.

No, DeSantis was playing the role of the mayor in "Jaws," and ought to have to pay some substantial political price and public abuse.

hyperbole. However, do you deny that lax governors have caused more needless deaths than aggressive ones?
but your own state governor hasn't closed any beaches.
AFAIK NC does not get Spring Break crowds.
Almost all NC locales have shut down their beaches.
Gov Cooper implemented social distancing rules earlier and more aggressively than any Gov in the South, and he declared an NC State Of Emergency on Mar 10, 2020 while Spring Break was still roaring unabated in Florida. Several of the measures he took would have shut that insanity down here:

California, at least SoCal, shut down the beaches in steps. They were open for "limited" use after most parks were closed; then when there were too many people were at the most popular ones, started closing down the convenient beach parking lots (yeah I know, "convenient beach parking lot" sounds like an oxymoron to a Floridian), then stopped allowing "gathering" or sitting, and eventually closed for all uses. All based on how crowding was being managed and/ or distancing compliance. I'm pretty sure that if we'd had the conditions that were in Clearwater, Ft. Lauderdale, etc. that Newsom would have shut them down quickly.

Unless DeSantis kept the beaches open for personal gain (which of course his cult leader Trump would have done), I wouldn't even joke about his decision being criminal. But given what he knew or should have known, and given his lack of meaningful action until Trump told him what to do, I'd see major negligence.

Do anticipated campaign donations and other political benefits count as personal gain?

Seriously, I get it, but it's still strange that self-serving informed decisions can be made that kill hundreds or thousands without consequence when the impassioned killer of one gets the death penalty.

Agreed for the most part. But still, his closing down the state before 3/4 would have put him light years ahead of other spring break beach party states, Texas, LA, MISS, ALA, GA,SC and NC.

Everybody except calif and wash were late and they had more deaths than Florida
