North Korea Reaches Orbit

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

North Korea Reaches Orbit

Unread post by rstrong »

NORAD acknowledges missile launch
North American Aerospace Defense Command officials acknowledged today that U.S. missile warning systems detected and tracked the launch of a North Korean missile at 7:49 p.m. EST. The missile was tracked on a southerly azimuth. Initial indications are that the first stage fell into the Yellow Sea. The second stage was assessed to fall into the Philippine Sea. Initial indications are that the missile deployed an object that appeared to achieve orbit.
Iran has successfully launched at least three satellites since 2009. North Korea has popped at least three nukes since 2006. The two countries have worked together on their missile programs. A group of Iranian missile experts were reported last week to be in North Korea offering technical assistance.

Now that North Korea appears to have reached orbit, it wouldn't surprise me if Iran gets some assistance with their nuclear program.

A logical situation for sure. I am confident, though, that Sarah Palin has this under control and very soon she will come out and reassure us with regard to our North Korean allies; should be any day now. Until then, we'll wait....

It is about time for another Obama speech indicating the North Koreans should stop this testing or there will be consequences.

That would be yet another instance where Obama mirrors Republican policy.

Typical bench warmer response rstrong.

So, what would you do. Send them a card of congratulations?

Typical uninformed spectator response, Reality.

Like it or not, the North Korean launch didn't violate international law any more than American launches do. The same goes for nuke tests.

Do you have an alternative? The Republicans certainly didn't.

Nope; Madeline never got confused and described the North Koreans as our allies.

I guess Korea was the original domino theory that was eventually found to be wrong and stupid. As for blame, we can go with Truman or even Ike.
For the north's recent missile test, I recommend we send them a large electronic Rube Goldberg type device that is stamped "Top Secret" and "No Way Meant for North Korea" that is so convoluted, redundant, and generally complicated that it will take them several years to figure out that it's nothing more than a bunch of wire, integrated circuits, timers, and vacuum tubes that was originally a group effort from Boy Scout Troop 265.

Interesting, no mention of GOP POTUS' equal ineffectiveness in dealing with North Korea.

So, what would you do, bench warmers?

Hmmm, according to CT, rstrong does my bidding and now "Reality" admits that his actions are controlled by what rstrong does. Who is above me in the pecking order and who is beneath "Reality"?
There have been times that I had the illusion of being above reality, but they have been rare and fleeting....hard to handle so to speak. I, however, have never thought I was good enough to disregard or underestimate reality....Well, ok, maybe once....

Reality is reality PBO. You should try it sometime.

Vrud, I elevated rstrong becuase he is a conservative. If you do not believe me, ask him.

From previous link. "When North Korea attempted to launch a rocket in April of this year, one official described the satellite as a "dishwasher wrapped in tinfoil," The New York Times reports."

A country that cannot feed it's people is flinging "dishwashers" into space in an effort to justify their right to do so and,.....the Iranians helped. Who was it that said if we, the US, can do why can't they? I'd say becuase they do not know what they are doing.

Next up. It's the US's fault our peaceful "wash machine" went out of control.

And, still, North Korea is dark compared to South Korea ...

If North Korea ever becomes successful at actually launching a satellite, maybe they'll realize that?

For more on North Korea, though not lately updated as far as I can tell (the site is quite slow on my end but does work) ...

America's first satellites could be described as "dishwashers wrapped in tinfoil" with equal honesty.

Of course it could simply be a dummy payload, an orbital launch disguising what is actually an ICBM program.

Likewise North Korea's early launch success rate seems no worse than America's or any other spacefaring nations'. Even SpaceX is is considered wildly successful, and their first three launches failed.

Yup. And when they sell rocket technology to Iran and others - as they've done before - they could turn a profit. Without even including the optional nuclear payload.
