Whaaat?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Oh wait - so all those basketball team players from long ago were really (technically) black kids?
I think I'm starting to understand the system.

So how would they know if my grandmother/great grandmother was blackish, or how would they know to ask? There would be minimal if any physical characteristics. Did everyone have to produce "papers" to prove their pedigree?
It was likely enforced by threat and fear....sort of like an earlier version of Trumpism. Plus, back then, most folks tended to stay near where they were born and grew up, especially in rural areas. That being the case, the stigma of violating this law and the fact that nearly everyone knew about nearly everyone else's business probably sufficed to offer a type of auto enforcement situation. So, these poor bastards were Trumped before anyone.
Papers were required when living while black, but I agree, how would whitie know.
Put on some music. Ability to dance = Black.

I read another story today about an older guy falling to his death at the Grand Canyon, which the story said makes three deaths in eight days. This seems suspicious to me but could be just chance.
Obviously it was the Clinton's.

Here's the headline:
Tropical storm off Carolinas poses massive threat to the US

Here's the "massive threat"
Spoiler:
The National Weather Service said that large hail, gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms would impact the coastal Carolinas into Tuesday evening as a midlevel shortwave preceded by a surface cold front crosses through the region.

In addition, the agency said there was a marginal risk of thunderstorms, heavy downpours and isolated flash flooding in the Florida Peninsula.

Tropical Storm Bill is also expected to bring the potential for showers and thunderstorms in the Northeast as fronts move through the area, leading to below-normal temperatures.
OK, so cover the patio chairs.

I always wondered what those people that got free sandbags did with them after the flooding. Seems keeping them in place might be a good idea.
Always wondered also what all those people in Home Depot buying plywood did with their window coverings they had the last hurricane(s). We had one set. Stored in the garage, with attachment screws. Hurricane/storm warning and they'd be up in less than a half hour.

Yeah, last minute hurricane preppers make good local news. Do you imagine that they are also surprised every morning at 7 when the realization of work by 8 strikes from out of the blue?

Hey everybody, we have left the insanity of living under threat from fire, flood and earthquake. Life now is all peaceful and tranquil. Our beach house sits right on the quiet shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Bye.

From the link:
Samuli Nyman, the project's chief engineer and also a co-founder of Arctic Astronautics, says, "The base material for plywood is birch, and we're using basically just the same as you'd find in a hardware store or to make furniture."
So now we know what Whack9 can do with his bendy river birch tree... send it to outer space...

Yeah, I was mostly just ridiculing the hyperbole of the headline. I'm pretty sure among the many staff cuts media companies keep making are the ones who might actually be writers.

Well deserved ridicule even if it hadn't fizzled from what the article was Chicken LIttle-ing. I saw it before you posted and immediately raced to Weather Underground and found . . . nothing.

Oklahoma has the best panhandle. The folks that live there all have flat faces but are laughed at in other parts of the state.
