Yeah, well, "since the 70's" is still a long time.
Anyway, when the Packers move out of Lambeau for some additional bells and whistles and a few more parking spaces in Appleton, I'll give up on there being any semblance of tradition at all.
Is a roof in Wisconsin in December a bell or a whistle? Anyhow,
Lambeau Field

... it opened in 1957 ...
So did I, and I'm falling apart.
The stadium completed its latest renovation in the summer of 2013 with the addition of 7,000 seats high in the south end zone.... With a capacity of 81,441, Lambeau Field is the fifth-largest stadium in the NFL with standing room, but is third in normal capacity....

Lambeau Field is the oldest continually operating NFL stadium. In 2007, the Packers completed their 51st season at Lambeau, breaking the all-time NFL record set by the Chicago Bears at Wrigley Field (1921–70). While Soldier Field in Chicago is older, the Bears did not play their home games there until 1971 and the team did not play there during stadium renovations in 2002. Only the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park and the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field have longer active home-field tenures in American professional sports.

True that.
I don't have anything against shiny new stadiums, and sure, sometimes an old grungy stadium is just an old grungy stadium. But standing in Lambeau gives a sense of history, place, and tradition that you're not going to get in SoFi no matter how gee-whiz fancy it is.

Agreed. I was sad when they tore down old Comiskey on the south side. It reeked of stale beer but it was historic and a great place to watch a ball game. It could've been saved but that type of thinking wasn't prevalent in the 90's, especially for the owner Reinsdorf.

Same with the old Chicago Stadium. It was truly a dump but it was our dump and deafening loud and raucous as hell.
It really was beyond salvage and the United Center (another Reinsdorf project) is superior in just about every way.

Thrilled that the evil Rickets upgraded Wrigley though I'm no fan of the Jumbotrons, but they're a necessary evil I guess.

Yeah, Jumbotrons are there to make it almost as good as watching your own 60"er in a comfortable chair with better beer and brat prices.

Without in-stadium replay I wouldn't even consider going.

I grew up without it. Makes you pay attention and appreciate the game more.

I actually do like having access to it, just not the behemoths that were installed.

Interesting article here about instant replay - seems like it's been around longer than 1986, but then, 1986 was in fact a long time ago.
On September 7th, 1986, instant replay was used for the first time in an NFL regular-season game. The contest pitted the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Chicago Bears, against the Cleveland Browns.
The league's use of instant replay was called into action on only the third play of the game between Cleveland and the reigning Super Bowl Champion Bears. Cleveland safety Al Gross recovered possession in the Chicago end zone after a bad snap from center Jay Hilgenberg. The officials on the field said, 'maybe,' and the man in the booth said 'yes.'

I don't think either of us were talking about play review by the officials. Afaik TV was showing replays in the 60s and I missed it when I went to a live game. It especially mattered to me the more angles the networks started filming from.

Yeah, I know simple replays are different from official review, but the game experience changed a lot with the increased use of replay. For a viewer, it's better, yet it did require accommodation at the stadium. I guess for the original older-time experience, you can still go to some small-college games.

I didn't think I would like it, but that changed during the 1st quarter. I love instant replay at live games.

That's long enough to have a great grandchild, a great great grandchild in Appalachia ;) . It is a little less than 1/3 of "A Cubs", though.
A look at the Chicago Bears on the 30th anniversary of their Super Bowl XX win. The birth of Buddy Ryan's 46 Defense, their win over the 49ers, the loss to the Dolphins that ruined their perfect season and the Super Bowl Shuffle.
