Major tornado/storm outbreak in Tennessee/Kentucky

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Good boy. Is this really easier for you than just admitting that you got the candle factory death toll wrong, masochist?

Factory bosses to workers before tornado: 'If you leave, you're more than likely to be fired'

As a catastrophic tornado approached this city Friday, employees of a candle factory — which would later be destroyed — heard the warning sirens and wanted to leave the building. But at least five workers said supervisors warned employees that they would be fired if they left their shifts early.

For hours, as word of the coming storm spread, as many as 15 workers beseeched managers to let them take shelter at their own homes, only to have their requests rebuffed, the workers said.

Fearing for their safety, some left during their shifts regardless of the repercussions.

At least eight people died in the Mayfield Consumer Products factory, which makes scented candles. The facility was leveled, and all that is left is rubble. Photos and videos of its widespread mangled remains have become symbols of the enormous destructive power of Friday’s tornado system....

Kentucky tornadoes: Race to find missing in flattened US towns
Kentucky's governor reflected on the "unspeakable trauma" in his state, as he confirmed that weekend tornadoes have killed at least 74 residents.

The victims ranged in age from as young as five months to 86 years old and come from at least eight different counties, with 18 people still unidentified.

Governor Andy Beshear said on Monday at least 109 people remain missing and more deaths may be confirmed soon.

Search and rescue efforts have been continuing across Western Kentucky.

There was a "designated shelter area" at the Kentucky candle factory, but for some workers at least it was a hero jailer that led them to it rather than management.
Jail Officer Who Led Others to Safety Is Among the 74 Killed in Tornadoes

Robert Daniel, a veteran corrections officer at the county jail, was keeping a watchful eye on seven inmates assigned to work at a Kentucky candle factory when the sirens went off, warning of an oncoming tornado.

Daniel moved quickly to direct the inmates in his care, along with other workers, to a room with a heavy door designated as a “safety area.” Then he went back to look for others who might need help.

“The tornado hit. They turned around and he was gone,” said Pete Jackson, chief deputy at the Graves County Jail. Long after the storm had passed, Jackson said, Daniel’s body was found under the shattered building. The workers he had ushered to safety survived....

Looks like Tennessee got its share last night:

Severe weather updates: A total of 15 tornadoes touched down in Middle TN

Opps...
A total of 15 tornadoes touched down in Middle Tennessee as storms swept through the region over the weekend, including three EF-2s, the National Weather Service said on Tuesday night.

The tornadoes destroyed homes, downed thousands of tree, snapped power poles and injured four people in Middle Tennessee.

High winds across the region also caused widespread damage and power outages. More than 20 counties were affected by the storms statewide, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency said.

President Joe Biden approved an emergency declaration in Tennessee on Monday night, releasing federal assistance for nine counties impacted by the storms, according to a news release. Those include Cheatham, Decatur, Dickson, Dyer, Gibson, Lake, Obion, Stewart and Weakley counties.

Correction: Storms lashed Tenn over the weekend. NWS released its findings last night (Tuesday).

Initial news reports seemed to be focused on Kentucky, especially the major loss of life at that candle factory.

You never have corrected your major screws up on how great that loss of life was and the supposed lack of designated shelter space.
