How about stuporstalemanager? I was anticipating vibrant repartee after his surprising and unheralded comeback. But alas, it would seem he's in the same sort of stupor he's always been in and it's even become more stale if that's possible. I bet the poor bastard would pay eighty five dollars a gallon for gas if only trump could be anointed king turd over the liberty bowl.

I wonder why there is not a single post I have seen that discusses what a great job Joe Biden has done as president...

Something to add - there isn't really a cult of personality around Biden like there is Trump. I don't want my politicians to have celebrity appeal. I don't want them to be entertaining. I want them to do all of the rote administrative type things involved in running and representing the country.

One of the common retorts I've seen thrown around during the election was comparisons of the crowds Biden drew vs those of Trump. Trump was entertaining. He drew large crowds. A lot of his supporters fly flags and wear hats with his name and slogans, and I think this is very telling of the mindset of the two groups of voters and indicative of the celebrity worship that surrounds Trump.

This is my own personal theory and I've stated this before, but I feel like television and entertainment are so incredibly enmeshed in modern American culture that many people have difficulty separating reality from entertainment. Most people turn the TV on after work and view the world through said lense. News has to be entertaining now to hold an audience as well.

Celebrities are entertaining. Trump was entertaining. He's was a celebrity president, but in my opinion completely lacked substance, decorum, and was frankly really embarrassing and is a disgusting human being. I don't want that representing my country. This doesn't mean I want to deck myself out in Biden garb and fly Biden flags. He holds no celebrity appeal to me. No president ever has.

I suspect there's always been a relatively high level of showmanship in American politics, and that the Trump phenomenon is nothing particularly new, at least on a local level. It's a bit shocking that he got elected president back in 2016, but we as a nation managed to survive his ineptitude.

There's always going to be some showmanship and "acting". That's part of public speaking. You want your audience to remain engaged. But I think Trump appealed to people's baser instincts. That was one of first qualities about him that made me give him a hard pass. Not gonna lie and I'm ashamed to admit this but I defended him some when he first popped up. Then when I dug deeper and read his tweets or listened to his speeches at his rallies, it felt like all he did was whine, complain, and try to appeal to people's thirst for some kind of revenge.

Showmanship, sure, but with minor exceptions, those who have gone from show business to politics have used their celebrity to get elected, but made an effort to take the job seriously and move away from their entertainment act. Examples would include Congressman Sonny Bono (who already had some cred as mayor of Palm Springs), Schwarzenegger, Reagan, Thompson, Franken, etc. And some others have run but been unsuccessful. Trump was nothing but "The Trump Show" throughout his ill-fated ummm "administration*". And I'm not so sure that there is a "we as a nation" anymore or that we did survive. Unless you consider this "surviving" a burn accident:

The problem with Trump, unlike most of the others who appealed to voters' higher sentiments, is that he appeals to voters' basest instincts. Because that's basically all the Trump act ever was. Therein lies his similarity to historic disastrous leaders, a list that is depressingly long. The saving grace is that once the disastrous results became self-evident, most nations have managed to reject a repetition for a generation or more. Let's hope the USA falls into that category, sooner than later.
