Garland is in a shit position.Vrede too wrote: ↑Sun Jun 12, 2022 9:21 pmJan. 6 panelists: Enough evidence uncovered to indict Trump
Guesses as to whether milquetoast Garland indicts or gets a grand jury to? Maybe it's wishful thinking, but a bipartisan House committee is a powerful thing. I'll say 60-40 that Garland goes for it.
Good opinion piece, doesn't cover everything but is food for thought.

He has to do it, but probably has waited too long to begin an investigation.
I'll probably always believe that he's in trump's pocket.
Muller set the stage when he refused to interview trump under oath.

I'm glad no one is asking me to decide and to carry out that decision.
Do we know that DoJ hasn't been investigating TRE45ON for awhile, in conjunction with the hundreds of prosecutions?billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:13 amHe has to do it, but probably has waited too long to begin an investigation.

I'd love to see subpoenas with teeth for all of the cowardly traitors that obstructed the Committee the moment it wraps up, but I won't hold my breath.

None of these people are getting near the penalty they should. If I were one of the judges, I'd make it hurt. Sentences are worse for some of the people who only tried to buy their kid into college than for violent obstruction of Congress. Hell, Martha Stewart served 5 months plus 5 months home confinement for lying about a stock sale.

A smattering have gotten several years, but you're mostly correct. We'll see, most of the pleas have been to mildish charges. The folks facing heavy charges are taking it to trial.O Really wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 10:46 amNone of these people are getting near the penalty they should. Re: Sedition
The DOJ has already started its investigation. A couple of weeks ago they asked the Committee for transcripts and some other stuff. Initially the Committee refused their request saying that they haven't finished their own hearings. I've read since then that Justice and the Committee have come to some sort of arrangement.Vrede too wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:47 amGood point, but there are also thousands of emails and other comms, and Idk if DoJ was sitting in on all of the Committee interviews or getting videos the next day.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:39 amWouldn't we have heard if they called any of the organizers in for an interview?

Hardly an investigation. They've done nothing in a year and a half and now want someone else's work.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 11:52 amThe DOJ has already started its investigation. Unless i missed something, the Committee has made their point that they can't afford to turn over their unfinished work.

Unseen Trump tapes subpoenaed by House panel investigating Jan. 6
The House select committee investigating Jan. 6 sent a subpoena last week to Alex Holder, a documentary filmmaker who was granted extensive access to then-President Donald Trump and his inner circle.
Holder shot interviews with the then-president both before and after Jan. 6. The existence of this footage is previously unreported.
A source familiar with the project told POLITICO on Monday night that Holder began filming on the campaign trail in September 2020 for a project on Trump’s reelection campaign. Over the course of several months, Holder had substantial access to Trump, Trump’s adult children and Mike Pence, both in the White House and on the campaign trail.

Re: Sedition
The testimony from the Repub AZ and GA secretaries of state is devastating. The fake electors should be charged with conspiracy felonies, but I haven't heard it suggested yet. I hope they're at least being named and shamed in their states.
I also hope this woman is able to sue TRE45ON, Rudy, etc for millions:
Jan. 6 hearing: Ga. election worker and her mother say Trump's 'lies' led to death threats
What was done to her alone ought to be sufficient basis for criminal charges, too.

Re: Sedition
This is a good point:
I was thinking that there is a likely Jan 2023 expiration date, but that's only on congressional action. No matter what happens in Nov, Garland will still bring Trump and his ilk to justice. After Nov, the Congressional Panel will not be needed. Their job will be done.
The World already knows the truth. Trumpers and hatemongers will never get it.
