"A Change.org petition started by the Native American Guardian's Association (NAGA), a nonprofit organization based in North Dakota, surpassed 101,000 signatures on Tuesday. The petition, which began June 21, calls for a restoration of the team's original name for the benefit of "the team, its loyal fan base and the legacy it represents."

Agreed, the new owners need to shed the Snyder stank entirely.... "Let us be very clear, the r-word is the equivalent to the n-word for Native Americans," Crystal Echo Hawk, founder and executive director of IllumiNative, told Newsweek. "The term is a racial slur that is deeply offensive and derogatory towards our peoples.
"It is extremely disheartening and, quite frankly, exhausting that we continue to have these conversations about Native mascots when time and time again Native peoples have made it clear that these mascots are racist and offensive," she said. IllumiNative is a Native-women-led social and racial justice organization that helped lead the efforts to rename the team in 2020 and works to remove all Native mascots and names....
Joanna Schwartz, marketing professor at Georgia College & State University, told Newsweek that 100,000 signatures or even a hypothetical million "doesn't mean that there aren't hundreds of thousands, or millions, of people who are offended by the name."
"Dueling things can also be true, which is to say that Washington really needed to rebrand, but it can also have done a really bad job of rebranding," she said. "The Commanders, and their mascot, don't necessarily resonate with the team's fans, which can be seen by things like sales of branded team apparel, but that doesn't mean they should change back.
Hah, I hadn't scrolled down yet. Great minds ..."Frankly, it wasn't a sudden switch like the petition indicates. There were, of course, several years as the generic Washington Football Team. Reclaiming pejoratives is complex, and while members of tribal nations ... comprise the members of the board behind the petition, it doesn't mean that their views represent the views of most native or indigenous people."
NAGA - Formation April 6, 2017, the similarity to MAGA can't be accidental. It's the perfect astroturf, feeding off donations from outraged (mostly) White cons without ever accomplishing anything.... Last month, ESPN's Don Van Natta Jr. said on The Rich Eisen Show that Harris is weighing different options regarding the franchise's future.
"I think there's a pretty good chance of that to erase any part of the Snyder legacy, to have a complete do-over," Van Natta said. "I would not be surprised at all, Rich, to see a name change and a complete rebranding."

Narrative:
Colorado tops No. 17 TCU in Deion Sanders' 1st game as coach
Most yards ever by a Colorado quarterback
Four different Buffaloes eclipsing 100 receiving yards is another Colorado first
TCU "reached the national championship game last season"
Colorado went 1-11 last season
First road win since 2021
86 new Colorado players2 Heisman contenders?(Travis) Hunter became the first FBS player to record more than 100 receiving yards and an interception (at the Buffaloes' 4-yard line) in the same game since Miami's Quadtrine Hill in 2002....
(He) logged 129 snaps against TCU. He was targeted 16 times as a receiver and finished with three tackles, a pass breakup and the interception on defense.Deion's son Shilo, a safety, "led Colorado in solo tackles with nine."Before Saturday, Colorado had been held to fewer than 400 yards in 26 straight games, the longest active streak in the FBS, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. The team had been one of three FBS teams without a 300-yard passer in the past two seasons. Colorado didn't have a player record multiple touchdowns from scrimmage in any game last season.
But the Buffaloes surged for 565 yards on 81 plays and held the ball for 34 minutes, 33 seconds. Offensive standouts included freshman running back Dylan Edwards, who had a team-high 135 receiving yards and three touchdowns to go along with a rushing touchdown; and wide receivers Jimmy Horn Jr. and Xavier Weaver, who combined for 235 receiving yards on 17 catches. One of the greatest debuts ever. HBCUs rule!...(Deion) Sanders thanked his assistant coaches and athletic director Rick George for hiring him.
"They know I'm a winner, and we're going to end up winning," Sanders said. "Ain't none of [the media] thought we were going to end up sitting here. You were supposed to be on the other side, interviewing [TCU] or asking me, 'What happened? You said this and you said that.'
"Now what? Everybody's quiet now."

Yep, there was that one time freely admitted as a ref mistake by Auburn fans and reporters alike.
Yep, Alabama fans and reporters can't stop talking about it. The whataboutisms are almost on par with trump supporters.
I see a difference. You? (Especially when compared to the obvious mistake that allowed ucf to throw themselves a parade as National Champions without ever admitting that it was a refs mistake that gave them the game)

Naaa, I just saw the entire page list, and probably more, of articles generally supporting the idea that SEC refs suck. Then I saw the headline on the Auburn one and thought I'd throw it in for fun. Probably if I had done a more thorough search, I'd have found somebody who listed all the bad calls by team benefitting. Might very well be Bammer.
