Ukraine

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

So Vance wanted Zelensky to thank him for aid he voted against and trump lobbied against?

Sure Wilbur.

Fact check: 33 times Zelensky thanked Americans and US leaders

I watched the encounter and describe it as unfortunate. I agree with Trump and Vance that Zellensky is ungrateful for what the US had done for Unkraine. That being said, the open forum was not the best place to call him out. It seems Zellensky should understand if the minerals deal is signed it implies there will be protection for Ukraine.

The bottom line. Without US support Ukraine is toast.
"unfortunate" It was a deliberate abandonment of an ally.

"ungrateful" :headscratch: Evidence?

"implies" The US will get the minerals if Russia occupies, too. Unless there are ironclad security guarantees DonOLD's word is as good as it ever is - garbage.

Ukraine has been counted out before, in 2022 when TRE45QN was calling his idol PUTIN a "genius". We'll see. Ukraine's own weapons industry has become huge, it will now be free to launch many more painful attacks deep within Russia, and Europe can step up its aid and may even put troops into Ukraine. I'm not hopeful, but I'm not as defeatist as useful idiots like you are.
"ungrateful" :headscratch: Evidence?"

To quote Vrede on numerous occasions. Pay attention.

I guess you missed how much the US has all ready poured into the Unkraine situation.
:headscratch: Non sequitur. Pay attention.

The amount of US aid to "Unkraine" is well known, though DonOLD routinely exaggerates it while dishonestly minimizing how much Europe has kicked in. What you are cowering from, as usual, is providing any evidence that Zelenskyy and the Ukraininan people are "ungrateful" for it.

While we're here, did you see this:
viewtopic.php?p=209168#p209168 ?

Which side are you on - Reagan/Ike or POTUS Putin/PINO?
Zelenky's behavior yesterday is proof enough for me to reflect his lack of gratitude.

Opps, 33 public expressions of gratitude is barely shy of once a month since PINO's idol invaded. No doubt there have been many more private thank yous. I hope you're grateful to GoCubsGo for finding what you were too smitten with DonOLD and lazy to look up.

What DonOLD means by "lack of gratitude" and you dutifully parrot, is that Zelenskyy doesn't blow DonOLD like Just Deranged, Speaker Johnson the johnson and the Cabinet do. Of course, this includes refusing to bend over for TRE45QN's extortion by going along with a wholly invented smear of Joe Biden in 2019. Two of PINO's many many character flaws are the inability to ever admit being wrong and holding infantile grudges for years.

"I am grateful to President Trump ..." less than 3 weeks ago, and again today. Now, please list all the times that DonOLD has thanked Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people for sacrificing so much in fighting Putin so we don't have to. Good luck.

For those who may thing Orwell's "1984" wasn't real, I offer the following. Substitute "Ukraine" for "Eastasia" and "Russia" for "Eurasia"
The quote “Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia” appears in 1984 by George Orwell. The quote is used to illustrate how the Party controls history and reality.
Explanation
In "1984", the Party changes its mind and declares that Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia, even though it had previously been allied with Eurasia. The Party uses this lie to control history and reality, and to justify the war effort. The Party's slogan is "Who controls the past controls the future".
Winston Smith knows that Oceania has been in alliance with Eurasia, but he keeps this knowledge to himself because he knows it will soon be annihilated. The Party's goal is to keep society on the brink of starvation, and to make the war continuous so that it can't be won

You said that he's moved on to the "Draining the Swamp" phase, viewtopic.php?p=209221#p209221 , but I couldn't find where he'd ever rejected the "Fake News" and "TDS" phases. Maybe there's an overarching, desperate "throw things at the wall and see what sticks" phase.

Murkowski rebukes Trump over Ukraine: ‘Walking away from our allies’
The Alaska senator’s statement was a rare note of dissent from a Republican.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski delivered a scorching rebuke Saturday of President Donald Trump’s explosive exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a rare voice of Republican dissent as party members lined up in support of the president’s increasingly combative relationship with Ukraine.

“I am sick to my stomach as the administration appears to be walking away from our allies and embracing Putin, a threat to democracy and U.S. values around the world,” the Alaskan wrote in a Saturday afternoon post to X...

‘Free world needs a new leader’: Europe defends Zelenskyy after Trump attack
France, Germany and Poland all make prompt declarations of support as Europe fears Trump’s alignment with Putin.

... European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said: “Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader. It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.”

... “There is an aggressor, which is Russia and a people who have suffered aggression, which is Ukraine,” said French President Emmanuel Macron, hitting back at Trump’s attempts to treat the two sides evenly. “You have to respect those who have been fighting since the beginning because they are fighting for their dignity, their independence, for their children, and for the security of Europe.”

... In the Oval Office, Trump told Zelenskyy his refusal to concede to Russia at the negotiating table was “gambling with World War III.”

Later, Macron told Portuguese television: “If someone is playing World War III, his name is Vladimir Putin.”

... Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk sent a message to Zelenskyy insisting, “Dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone,” while the office of Sweden's prime minister said: “You are not only fighting for your freedom but also for all of Europe’s.”

The Czech Republic, Spain, Latvia and Lithuania all sent similar messages of support.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tweeted: “Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You are never alone, dear President@ZelenskyyUa.” In coordinated communication, the presidents of the European Council and Parliament sent out the same message.

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever stressed that his country stood behind Ukraine, saying “their fight is our fight,” while Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp underlined support for Ukraine would come in the form of “whatever it takes, for as long as it takes.”

... As it is, some European leaders will meet among themselves in London on Sunday at the invitation of U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Zelenskyy is due to join them. A spokesperson for Starmer said he'd spoken to Zelenskyy and Trump on Friday night.

Marco Rubio Watching Trump’s Zelensky Meltdown Sparks Misery Memes
SOUL FOR SALE

Social media users roasted Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s sour look as he watched President Donald Trump lose it with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in real time on Friday....

Another X user added of his facial expression, “Marco Rubio regretting he took the job.”

Social media users took aim at Rubio as a “coward” and “one of the saddest people in the history of this f---ing world” for doing nothing as Trump’s unsuccessful meeting with Zelensky went viral....

“How we doin bud?” Slate politics editor Jim Newell asked Rubio in a post that sparked comedic memes about how miserable the former Florida senator must be.

“No one has wanted to be severed more than Marco Rubio in this job,” wrote Pod Save America host Jon Favreau, referencing the Apple+ show, Severance.

A.J. Catoline, an Emmy-winning editor on Ted Lasso, added, “Go lick Putin’s boot, Marco,” then added a Severance meme of his own.

... “Marco Rubio looks absolutely disgusted. He knows deep down Zelensky is the one we should be defending but he sold his soul to MAGA,” wrote an X commentator about the moment.

Another added, “You literally could do a daily picture of Marco Rubio swimming in the misery of knowing he gave away a longterm Senate job only to get none of the prestige of being SoS and all the responsibility for letting kids and Ukraine die.”...
