Because the young girl, her mother, her doctor, and the others onboard were Mexican nationals trump will soon lie and whine that they were all illegal immigrants trying to avoid capture by Homan and his ICE army. The cult will gush in awe yet again. Make that stupefied awe. Again.
If he doesn't go with the above scenario, he will lie and whine that its another DEI situation where attempts to serve more Latino kids at Shriners Children's Hospital resulted in disaster. And, on cue, the gushing in stupefied awe will accompany this idiotic notion just like always.
... Kosta aired footage of the president telling reporters: “The FAA is actively recruiting workers who suffer severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems, and other mental and physical conditions under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative. ... They include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy and dwarfism.”
Kosta was temporarily lost for words.
“Dwarfism?” he asked.
“I can’t believe it’s only Day 10 and Trump is already this far down his list of scapegoats,” the comedian continued. “He’s blown past race and gender, and now he’s hitting dwarves? Is he really suggesting there is a plane crash because someone with dwarfism worked in air traffic control?”
To the editor: The Palisades fire was a tragic event for everyone involved — not just because of the loss of life, but also because of the destruction of homes and businesses and all that accompanies that loss. So, what I suggest will surely be met with scorn and derision. ("Parts of Pacific Coast Highway reopen Sunday amid interagency chaos," Feb. 2)
For the first time in more than 100 years, it is now possible to drive along Pacific Coast Highway west from Topanga Canyon Boulevard to Malibu and have an unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean. A quick check on Zillow reveals estimated sales values of the properties in the range of $2 million to $10 million.
Money is spent every year on mitigating the effects of erosion on the cliffs above PCH as well as on the damage caused by the ever-encroaching sea. As sea levels continue to rise, the structures along the highway will come under increasing threat.
Perhaps it's time to consider this question: Should the structures that burned down along PCH be rebuilt?

I never liked the aesthetics of the homes compared to ocean views. No matter, money will win.
... Thankfully, all 80 people onboard (76 passengers and four crew) survived the incident and were evacuated from the plane. 18 people sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Delta Air Lines has since confirmed that it is offering each passenger a “no strings attached” lump sum of $30,000 (£23,800) that does not affect their rights....
Not bad, and so fast. If I wasn't injured I might say, "I'm good," and not push for a lawsuit. That said, I probably wouldn't decline any settlement offered.
TV news: In 2024 there were 27 weather disasters with losses of over $1B. Some, like Hellene and the LA wildfires, were a lot more than $1B. This is exactly what was predicted by scientists and climate activists 30 years and more ago.
Do you have a sense of how fast you could get the home moving in an emergency? A warning could sometimes be hours out.
Two answers to that question: if all we wanted to do was to get the hell out of Dodge, we could be folded and rolling in about 15 minutes. That would result in some outdoor things being left behind, and probably some stuff jammed into places where it could get broken in the escape, but we'd be gone. Second part: we're not really in the Tsunami zone. If you look on the map around Oceanside, you see a little insert of yellow that goes up Loma Alta creek. But otherwise, north and south from there, look at S Pacific St. and the hazard stops along there and doesn't go far inland. That's not because of distance from the water, it's because there's a large drop-off from the street to the water, maybe 15-20 feet. There would be a bunch of waterfront houses get splashed, but it's really unlikely to get over that embankment.

Thanks, good. I'll wish against 25 foot tsunamis.
Thought I was watching Cal news just now. Hurricane Helene flooding recovery stories bookending coverage of a Polk County wildfire with homes turned to ashes. It's the new AGW reality.
We've got wildfire evacuations in Henderson County now, at the Polk County border. Polk County is where 3 fires are burning. It's only a little smoky. HFD (city) says Hendersonville is not threatened. Nice of them to email an update, regardless. Here's what the county and state are saying: www.hendersoncountync.gov/em/page/hende ... cy-updates

I was gonna ask you about the air quality. I remember my eyes burning about ten years ago from smoke from GSMNP fires some 60 miles away.

Didn't y'all's next nominee for president AOC confirm that cow shit is bad for the planet. Has it affected your everyday life of posting anonymously on this or any other social media site?

It's not bad here in town.
Westerly winds?
Supposedly SSE, go figure.
Just stepped outside and it's gotten more noticeable - campfire smell, smoky haze in the distance. Not to the eyes burning stage, yet. I experienced much worse in Montana many times. I also hiked in inactive fire zones often. I like the change in landscape from normal and tracing the paths of fires. The one bummer is the threat of trees or parts of them falling. It's especially bad in camp. Sometimes there is no "safe" place to set up.
The firefighters seem to be making some progress. Not surprisingly, the terrain and access to the fires is a challenge. However, the only real relief looks to be Sunday with possibly a nice general rain.
Meanwhile, let's get rid of FEMA, The cult gushes in awe. The last woman I messed around with lived in Polk County five miles down a gravel road. It was near a high dollar area called Mills River, scenic. Hope it don't burn
We've just brought you the latest images of an ongoing search and rescue operation at the site of a collapsed building in Bangkok, Thailand - which you can see in our last post.
Footage from earlier shows the moment the block, which was under construction, came down in the Chatuchak neighbourhood.
Workers can be seen fleeing the scene as a huge plume of smoke forms behind them.
I think this is the same building:
Most buildings damaged in Bangkok were under construction, military says
Most of the buildings that've been destroyed in Bangkok as a result of this earthquake were under construction, a spokesperson from the Thai military says.
The Thai prime minister and relevant government departments met the army's commander at 17:00 local time (10:00 GMT), the spokesperson adds, to discuss the emergency response.
Officials have ordered the Army Disaster Relief Centre to mobilise troops, disaster relief tools and military medical units to the affected areas.
Damage to Thailand's public transport system must be assessed before it can operate normally again, the spokesperson says.
Search and rescue teams sent to scene of collapsed building in Bangkok
The number of workers missing at a collapsed construction site of a high-rise building in Thailand's capital Bangkok has now risen to 81, according to the Thai deputy PM.
Earlier, the figure was at 70.
The Thai government says it's coordinating an emergency response at the scene and in a statement online, it says they have ordered the mobilisation of search and rescue teams, and disaster centres have been ordered to prepare relief equipment and machinery.
According to Thailand's Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin, there were as many as 409 people working on the site when it collapsed.
A quick recap of the main developments
Here's what we know so far:
A Myanmar military leader says at least 144 people have died and 732 are injured after the earthquake hit around noon local time
Historic buildings in Mandalay – once the royal capital – have been damaged. The BBC has seen footage of a fire at Mandalay University and video showing parts of Mandalay Palace badly damaged
The ruling military junta has made a rare call for international aid - but the opposition National Unity Government is urging that any assistance be delivered through independent, local networks
Meanwhile, in Thailand, seven people died when a high-rise collapsed - the quake's effects were felt in neighbouring countries including Thailand and China
Rescue efforts in Bangkok continue for 81 missing construction workers
We'll keep bringing you all the latest updates over the next few hours.

What's become of the teams of rescuers ready to go at the drop of a hat?
