2025 elections

April 1, really:

‘People vs. Musk’: Wisconsin holds first major statewide race in new Trump era

GOSusan CrawfordGO!
The 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court election will be held on April 1, 2025, to elect a justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court for a ten-year term. The incumbent justice, Ann Walsh Bradley, is retiring after 30 years on the court. Although the Wisconsin Supreme Court justices are considered nonpartisan, Bradley has identified as a liberal and has voted with the liberal 4–3 majority on the court, meaning the outcome of this election will decide the ideological majority of the court for at least the next year. By early March, the election had already become the most expensive judicial election in United States history, with spending exceeding $59 million.

DOGE = Department of Greedy Enrichment
Or… Department of Gruesome Extremists
DOGE = Department of Greedy ELON …works too..
E=Egomanics or economics
We, as South Africans , do hereby apologize unreservedly for sending Musk over
:D
Can you come get him back? We'll throw Trump in for free
I am from Wisconsin. This Supreme Court Election is very important. The Republicans want to get back to gerrymandering the State of Wisconsin. The only way the Republicans have a majority in the House is because they have gerrymandered states like Wisconsin. Wisconsin, a purple 50/50 State has a 6-2 House Republican Majority. This does not proportionately represent us. I personally was once an Elon Musk follower. In the last year he really has shown who he is and I can no longer support him and his corruption.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I always thought bribing judges and courts was you know Illegal

Looking good for retaining the liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court Tuesday:

Susan Crawford's Chances of Winning Wisconsin Supreme Court Election: Polls

50-42, maybe. We'll see, fingers crossed. Elon has been trying to buy the election:
... Elon Musk-funded groups have spent $10 million backing Schimel, The Associated Press reported. Altogether, he and his supporters have spent about $41 million, while Crawford and her crew have spent about $32 million....
Different article:
... More than $81 million has been spent on the race so far, obliterating the record for a judicial race in the U.S. of $51 million set in Wisconsin just two years ago, according to Brennan Center tallies.

A 3rd article:
... It also comes as Tesla is battling the state of Wisconsin in court over laws prohibiting vehicle manufacturers from selling cars to consumers directly.

The New York Times reports that the lawsuit was filed in January, just days before Musk splurged cash into the race....

Musk is intensifying his efforts to swing the race red by piling over $20 million into Schimel’s campaign.
 :puke-left:
... On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared that Musk’s “tech team” was being deployed to investigate Signalgate alongside the National Security Council and the White House Counsel’s Office.
:wtf: Is there any stopping him?

Also April 1, really. Seats once held by former Reps. Matt Gaetz and Mike Waltz:
Democrats outraged at Trump's changes pour millions of dollars into 2 special elections in Florida

Democrats, with few electoral outlets for their outrage at President Donald Trump's dramatic restructuring of the federal government, are pouring millions of dollars into two special elections in Florida.

That's where Democratic candidates are trying to accomplish the improbable by flipping a pair of Trump-friendly congressional seats and carving into Republicans’ narrow 218 to 213 majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. While Democratic leaders aren't predicting outright wins in such Republican-leaning districts, they say they think they'll exceed expectations. And they sound especially hopeful about the 6th Congressional District, where a public school teacher has out raised a Trump-endorsed state senator by a nearly 10-to-1 margin in the race to replace Mike Waltz, who was tapped by Trump to be a national security adviser in what was widely seen as a move without much political risk.

Democrats' challenge in both districts is formidable, but the money has been pouring in.

“The floodgates have really opened,” said Aubrey Jewett, a political scientist at the University of Central Florida. “It’s like, wow.”

Republicans, including Trump, have noticed too, and are looking to head off an embarrassing outcome. The president joined both Republican candidates by telephone on separate tele-town halls Thursday to help get out the vote in the “all-important" elections.

Winning both races next Tuesday would be colossal for a Democratic Party that has struggled to settle on a way to push back during the early days of the second Trump administration. Winning either — or even narrowing the margin in districts the president won by more than 30 points less than five months ago — could help alleviate the panic that set in among party leaders after Republicans swept both houses of Congress and the presidency in November....
Good luck, Dems. No way does a Dem win billy's district, or even gets close. Seems like a sketchy use of so much money, but what do I know.

I'd love it if I spoke to soon.
... Democrat Gay Valimont (who Gaetz defeated handily in November) has brought in more than $6 million to the Panhandle seat.

That’s four times what Patronis raised....
The seat could go to a gay?! Horrors!

On Wisconsin, on Wisconsin! Musk and Trump were handed their sorry asses and Elon blew a couple of mill on nothing. Not that he'd miss it.

:happy-cheerleaderkid: At least $22M, but your point still stands.

... Shortly after 9:30 p.m. local time Crawford addressed cheering supporters and said Schimel had called her to concede the race. She referenced the money Musk had given in support of her opponent.

"As a little girl growing up in Chippewa Falls, I never could have imagined that I'd be taking on the richest man in the world for justice in Wisconsin — and we won," Crawford said, vowing to be a "fair, impartial and common sense justice."

Schimel told his supporters he accepted the results....
"9:30 p.m. local time"? She must have really stomped him. In fact, he knew he lost from internal polling before today.
EDIT: 54-46 per MSNBC

Not a surprise:

GOP retains two House seats in Florida, as Democrats claim 'historic' improvement

Glass half full:
... Republicans have a substantial registration edge in both districts. But the results were far closer than those seen in November, suggesting voters may be unhappy with Republicans, President Trump and his agenda.

In the First district in the area around Pensacola, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz defeated Valimont by 32 points in November. President Trump nominated Gaetz to be his Attorney General. Gaetz later withdrew and left Congress, leaving his seat open. Patronis jumped into the race but was heavily outraised by Valimont, who drew support from Democrats across the country. Patronis' margin of victory was about 15 percentage points, 17 points lower than that seen by Gaetz in November.

In the Sixth district in central Florida, Fine beat Weil by about 14 points. That's a significantly narrower margin than that seen by then-Congressman Mike Waltz in November. Waltz defeated his Democratic opponent by 33 points. He left the seat vacant when he was named Trump's national security adviser. Weil raised ten times more money for his campaign than Fine and Democrats hoped they could pull out a victory in a red district.

Despite the losses, Democrats are celebrating what they're calling "historic performances."

The chair of the state's Democratic party, Nikki Fried said, "Florida Democrats just put the Republican Party on notice. Tonight's results represent a historic overperformance for Democrats and show that voters are already rejecting Trump's extreme agenda." ...

We've often talked about what a winning ticket looks like. Is nominating a Black woman and a gay man for Gov and Lt Gov in Virginia going too woke with the current political climate?
Spoiler:
They're the GQP candidates this November!
