Correct, of course, but "plurality" vs "majority" only matters if you're trying something of value in the ashes of your burned down house. It's not a meaningful distinction outside the US.

It's weird that a hotelier and resort guy would be so bad for international tourism . . . unless one remembers all of DonOLD's other failed businesses.

Fortunately, pluralities matter in parliamentary systems.

DonOLD just can't help himself:
Trump implies Canadians vote for him on election day, Poilievre tells president to butt out
U.S. president posted about election on his Truth Social platform

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre told the U.S. president to butt out of the federal election after Donald Trump appeared to suggest Canadians vote for him when they go to the polls on Monday.

"President Trump, stay out of our election. The only people who will decide the future of Canada are Canadians at the ballot box," Poilievre posted on social media.

Conservatives were expected to win this election, until PINO was such an asshole to Canada. Now, Conservatives are desperate to limit the damage.
Poilievre's comments came shortly after Trump injected himself into the federal election with a post on his social media site Truth Social, which began: "Good luck to the Great people of Canada."

"Elect the man who has the strength and wisdom to cut your taxes in half, increase your military power, for free, to the highest level in the World, have your Car, Steel, Aluminum, Lumber, Energy, and all other businesses, QUADRUPLE in size, WITH ZERO TARIFFS OR TAXES, if Canada becomes the cherished 51st. State of the United States of America."

Trump went on in his post to repeat his argument that Canada joining the U.S. would be advantageous to the country, along with the false claim that the United States subsidizes Canada with "hundreds of billions of dollars a year." ...
Even though it's PINO I'm still kind of embarrassed for America.

Polls are closing and results are rolling in:

"Carney to return as prime minister after reviving party from rock-bottom polling numbers"

Liberals are leading by 145K votes, 1.1%, but they're still 10 seats short of a majority with only presumably Con NW BC yet to report.

I don't understand how CBC projects a winner. Is it assumed that the Bloc Québécois and/or the NDP would join a coalition only with the Liberals if the Liberals don't reach an outright majority?

172 seats for a majority
19M votes counted
Liberals are just shy at a likely 168, +417K, +2.1% (43.5%).
Conservatives have a likely 144, giving the Liberals the plurality.
EITHER the Bloc Québécois (likely 23) or the NDP (likely 5) give the Liberals a governing majority.
BOTH the Bloc Québécois and the NDP give the Conservatives a governing majority, unlikely.

Heckuva job, Trumpie, and your last minute endorsement of the NDP was transparent and stupid.
Mark Carney Repeatedly Attacks Donald Trump in Victory Speech

... Why It Matters

The Liberal Party's win marks a stunning turnaround in their fortunes, fueled by Trump's annexation threats and trade war.

The party had appeared to be heading for a crushing defeat until Trump attacked Canada's economy and threatened its sovereignty, suggesting it should become the 51st U.S. state.

Trump's actions angered Canadians and stoked a surge in nationalism, helping the Liberals to flip the narrative and win a fourth straight term in power.

What To Know

... "We are once again at one of those hinge moments of history," he said. "Our old relationship with the United States, a relationship based on steadily increasing integration, is over.

"The system of open global trade anchored by the United States, a system that Canada has relied on since the Second World War, a system that, while not perfect, has helped deliver prosperity for a country for decades. Is over. These are tragedies, but it's also our new reality."

He added: "We are over the shock of the American betrayal, but we should never forget the lessons."

Carney said that when he sits down with Trump it will be to discuss the "future economic and security relationship between two sovereign nations, and it will be with our full knowledge that we have many, many other options than the United States to build prosperity for all Canadians." ...

The Liberals won a plurality, 3 seats and 6.3% short of a majority.

Are you regretting missing the parties? Looks like the Liberals won Kelowna and Vancouver, and the NDP won Courtenay—Alberni on Vancouver Island .

I probably wasn't clear on my comment on pluralities. Of course pluralities matter in systems where, for whatever reason, candidates can win without majority. I was speaking of the perception of Americans having elected Trump - the technicality of an electoral win and plurality loss is likely lost on them - and we collectively get blamed for enough of us voting for a psychopath to get him elected.

If I was Canadian I'd be happiest voting for the New Democratic Party. Depending on my district history and the polls I might sometimes vote for the Liberals. By taking Nunavut the NDP won the second or even the first largest landmass.
https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/electio ... results/#/
NDP Lori Idlout* 2,945 37.4%

LIB Kilikvak Kabloona 2,868 36.5%

CON James T. Arreak 2,055 26.1%

* Incumbent
In 2025 the NDP won 7 seats, down from 25 in 2021 :( It lost its official party status in the House of Commons, whatever that means.

Everyone Is Absolutely Losing It Over This Canadian Newspaper Mocking Donald Trump
Ohhhh, Canada.

... They're hanging their own flags.

Image

... A couple of months ago, a French Canadian newspaper went viral for this cover:

For those wondering, it translates to: "Trump pushes his way closer to recession."

... And now, we have a new viral Canadian headline.

In case you're unaware, Trump has nicknamed this next chapter as the new "Golden Age of America."

Well, the Toronto Star has renamed it to something else:

:---P
... That headline has over a million views, and the Canadians in the replies are in full agreement with the sentiment.

... And the author of the article chimed in with his own: "hey that's me."
