Re: Fascism Is here
The protests on Saturday in downtown Los Angeles and the city of Paramount, about 16 miles south of Los Angeles, were the second consecutive day of demonstrations. In some cases, law enforcement officers used rubber bullets and flash bang grenades against the protesters.
As of early Sunday, there were no signs of the National Guard troops on streets in the Los Angeles area. The protests had died down but organizers have called for more demonstrations later on Sunday.

Has anyone read the executive order?
https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential ... functions/
January 6? Storming of the Capitol building to prevent the transfer of power? Perfectly fine. Pardoned.
LA protests/riots? Rebellion.
The last time anything comparable to this EO was issued was the LA riots in 1992. But even then, it wasn't framed as a rebellion which holds a much heavier weight.
What are the possible ramifications as framing protesting ICE raids as rebellion?
- Up to ten years in a federal prison.
- Pathway to involve the military whenever and wherever dissent occurs in the form of protests.
- Aiding or siding with a protest can be labelled as an insurrection/rebellion. Felony for protesting?
https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential ... functions/
I can't find any instances in past EO's where protests/riots were framed as a rebellion against the United States. I think that's something completely new and rather unnerving.To the extent that protests or acts of violence directly inhibit the execution of the laws, they constitute a form of rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States.
...
I hereby call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard under 10 U.S.C. 12406 to temporarily protect ICE and other United States Government personnel who are performing Federal functions, including the enforcement of Federal law, and to protect Federal property, at locations where protests against these functions are occurring or are likely to occur based on current threat assessments and planned operations. Further, I direct and delegate actions as necessary for the Secretary of Defense to coordinate with the Governors of the States and the National Guard Bureau in identifying and ordering into Federal service the appropriate members and units of the National Guard under this authority. The members and units of the National Guard called into Federal service shall be at least 2,000 National Guard personnel and the duration of duty shall be for 60 days or at the discretion of the Secretary of Defense.
...
In addition, the Secretary of Defense may employ any other members of the regular Armed Forces as necessary to augment and support the protection of Federal functions and property in any number determined appropriate in his discretion.
To carry out this mission, the deployed military personnel may perform those military protective activities that the Secretary of Defense determines are reasonably necessary to ensure the protection and safety of Federal personnel and property

Re: Fascism Is here
First, the LAPD and LASO can do the job given a little time. Then, they can call for mutual aid from surrounding communities, state troopers and even federal offices like ICE, FBI, Marshals, etc. All of these are trained in everything from crowd control to civilian arrest procedures. Otoh, the NG is trained to kill, period. They are not "better cops", silly. If they should use that skill and murder some protesters, there will rapidly be 100K in the streets. Most will be nonviolent, but not all. Smart, Jasmine.
This is not about LA's need, but rather about Fascist DonOLD's itching to use the military at the first opportunity. This should be abhorrent to any con or libertarian. I guess we'll have to count you as a fascist, too. Yuck.

Re: Fascism Is here
Article of interest:
What to know about Trump's deployment of National Guard troops to LA protests
History of domestic law enforcement;
The dominant role of governors;
TACO Don's shaky legality;
TACO Don's fascist tendencies since the first term;
The importance of INDEPENDENT national security officials to rein in DonOLD's wilder and most unconstitutional pipe dreams, something intentionally missing this term;
Hegseth's threat to send active duty Marines.

America and democracy hating DonOLD is hoping for that.... This time, however, Trump is acting in opposition to Newsom, who under normal circumstances would retain control and command of California's National Guard. While Trump said that federalizing the troops was necessary to “address the lawlessness” in California, the Democratic governor said the move was “purposely inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.” ...

Re: Fascism Is here
The confrontation broke out as hundreds of people protested in front of the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles, where several of the newly-arrived National Guard troops stood shoulder to shoulder behind plastic riot shields.
Video showed uniformed officers shooting off the smoke-filled canisters as they advanced into the street, forcing protesters to retreat. It was not immediately clear what prompted the use of chemical irritants or which law enforcement agency fired them.
Minutes later, loud popping sounds erupted again, as some protesters chanted “go home” and “shame.” One person was taken to the ground by uniformed officers. Another appeared to be bleeding from their head.
Around 300 National Guard troops arrived in Los Angeles early Sunday on orders from Trump, who accused Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Democrats of failing to stanch recent protests targeting immigration agents.
Trump told reporters as he prepared to board Air Force One in Morristown, New Jersey, Sunday that there were “violent people” in Los Angeles “and they’re not gonna get away with it.”
Asked if he planned to send U.S. troops to Los Angeles, Trump replied: “We’re gonna have troops everywhere. We’re not going to let this happen to our country. We’re not going to let our country be torn apart like it was under Biden.”
Trump also said that California officials who stand in the way of the deportations could face charges. A Wisconsin judge was arrested last month on accusations she helped a man evade immigration authorities.
“If officials stay in the way of law and order, yeah, they will face charges,”
Defense secretary threatens to deploy Marines ‘if violence continues’
In a statement Sunday, Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin accused California’s politicians and protesters of “defending heinous illegal alien criminals at the expense of Americans’ safety.”

Nah, Biden allowed lawlessness across the country, looting, arson, vandalism, rioting. This administration isn't allowing that shit again.
