That's silly (gasp!). Individuals don't make - or have any effect on - tax law. Responsible ones just file according to the law in effect at the time, whether they approve of it or not. The point is, whether one approves or not, a $500 tax credit isn't remotely close to "no taxes on Social Security".
I'm opposed to income tax on Social Security because 1. it's a benefit you've earned and should be received in full; and 2. income tax on Social Security is just a circular process of the same government giving and taking and everybody's return being more complicated for no good; and 3. because I'd benefit from it.
On the other hand, I think it's really stupid to lament a deficit, go cutting valuable programs and at the same time refuse revenue.

A roofing company owner in Florida Keys who voted for President Donald Trump is now facing "a little buyer's remorse" after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained one-third of his workforce.
Vincent Cardina, whose team included six Nicaraguan workers, said he never expected his employees — whom he considered friends — to be targeted, as he believed the Trump administration’s immigration policies would focus on deporting criminals.
"It takes a toll. You get to know these guys. You become their friends. Not just an employer but a friend. And you see what happens to the family," he told NBC 6 South Florida in an interview.
Did he ask his "family" about his vote ahead of time?
“The situation is blatantly not at all what they said it was,” Cardina admitted to NBC.

His business, which has already been affected, joins others in the area that have seen similar fallout.
One landscaper he knows has even gone out of business after losing his entire crew. "It's quite a shock," Cardina added, reflecting on how the detentions are impacting both his business and his workers’ families.

Vincent Scardina supported Donald Trump’s tough stance on immigration at the ballot box. But that decision came back to bite the roofing boss when ICE detained a third of his workforce.
The six men, all from Nicaragua, were pulled over in a work truck on May 27 while heading to a job—and carted off to jail.
... Scardina, who runs a small roofing business in Florida’s Lower Keys, cannot believe it. “It’s quite a shock. You get to know these guys, you become their friends—not just an employer but a friend,” he told NBC6, visibly emotional.
Adding to Scardina’s annoyance, the men had valid work permits and pending asylum applications, according to their attorney Regilucia Smith. “They are legally here,” she said. “Valid work permit, not even close to expired… again, no criminal records—not here, not in Nicaragua.”
