I think the biggest response will be from those who think if they can cut Medicaid after saying they wouldn't, then they'll probably cut Medicare more next. And then social security - things that will affect almost everybody in the country directly as well as indirectly with grandma, etc. But if it's gonna be a "when they came for the ....I did nothing because I'm not a ...." situation on that broad of an issue, then the country is truly and totally down the tubes.

"85 million low-income and disabled" Medicaid recipients means that most families are affected by Medicaid, know a family that is affected or use a hospital and clinic that relies on Medicaid. I think you meant Medicaid in that last sentence. Maybe Medicare should be need-based, but it isn't. Everyone gets it and almost everyone uses it, often with supplemental coverage if they can afford it.

I don't know the numbers but there are many families that don't qualify for Medicaid, but can't afford private pay for granny's nursing home care. So, they rely on Medicaid then do what they can to make the care less bare bones.
