Re: Immigration
Just curious, Supes, is there any other law that you would expect such rigid black/white enforcement? Examples would be nice.
F'rinstance, we'd probably all agree that murderers should be punished, maybe up to killing them. But there are degrees of murder, and not all instances of killing someone are even murder at all. And if they're caught, they're entitled to a trial, and the government has to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt, and if the government is caught acting illegally, the murderer may likely walk - or at least be entitled to another trial. "Extenuating circumstances" and "mitigation factors" apply to pretty much every law I can think of, and due process is required without exception. Well, there is one exception for actual proven terrorists, but I think that's it.
But for immigration law, which is complicated by anybody's standard, the most minor violation makes them ILLEGAL and subject to all sorts of ILLEGAL practices that wouldn't even be tolerated for real murderers or crowd shooters.
Do you really want everything to be rigidly applied with no application of judgement or context, or is it just for immigrants such as those who probably live within 5 miles or less from you and pick your apples?

Federal judge blocks ICE from arresting immigrants who show up for court appointments in Northern CaliforniaO Really wrote: ↑Fri Dec 26, 2025 11:04 amHere's another legal perspective on the topic of courthouse raids:
https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/fed ... 19128.html
"This circumstance presents noncitizens in removal proceedings with a Hobson’s choice between two irreparable harms," Judge P. Casey Pitts wrote in his Christmas Eve decision.
"First, they may appear in immigration court and face likely arrest and detention," the judge wrote. "Alternatively, noncitizens may choose not to appear and instead to forego their opportunity to pursue their claims for asylum or other relief from removal."
George Galvis, left, leads a chant inside the Home Depot during the "ICE out of Home Depot" protest in Oakland on Dec. 20
Dementia Don, Blondage, Friendly Fire Barbie, and InHoman are ILLEGAL, again. ICE was supposed to be chasing down dangerous criminal immigrants. It's disgusting that the lazy mf jackboots are picking off asylum seekers who are trying to obey the law, instead. Racist MAGA cheers them on. Sick.

As for the reality of the situation. We have a significant number of migrants here in Henderson County. I accept quite a few are not here legally. Most are here to assimilate and enjoy the fruits of the USA. They do not bother me as long as they do not break the law. It is their choice to chance that and probably motivates them to act within the law.

Outrageous political utterance of the day:
It is reported Mayor Karen Bass has said it is sad that about 50% of Border Patrol applicants are Hispanic. How dare legal Hispanic residents desire to protect our borders and enforce border laws.

And his notation of a Democrat making a disparaging comment about Hispanics must somehow absolve trump of ALL of his previous disgusting remarks about Mexicans, Muslims, and any other non white non rabid Christian right wing extremist. Overall, quite illuminating in spite of the darkness and silence.

Well, I guess you'll just have to write my comment off as yet another point allegedly going over my head. I had no idea you were "standing up for the Hispanic community" by noting that a Democratic mayor said something unflattering to Hispanics.....but it does make me suspicious of your stated motive of "standing up for the Hispanic community" in light of your complete silence when trump and other right wing nuts whine about how bad all these immigrants are and how they're all criminals or mental asylum escapees.....trump has been doing this for almost ten years now. Funny how I never noticed you standing up for them. Even when they're picked up off the street and flown to a foreign country without due process or even without being charged with a crime. I guess you were "standing up" along with all those other invisible guys.supesalemgr2 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 6:26 amIf you consider my standing up for the Hispanic community as disparaging I can't help you.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 28, 2025 7:41 pmSure.
