From my understanding there's less of a likelihood of entire trees toppling from the roots like during Helene, but a higher risk of branches cracking off and falling.

The moment occurred during Friday’s The Lead With Jake Tapper, as CNN’s Gabe Cohen told Tapper that DHS officials under President Donald Trump asked FEMA to use the term “freezing rain” instead of ice in public messaging and social media posts about the upcoming winter weather event, in which the storm and ice track is forecasted to stretch over 2,000 miles across the East Coast.

“What they are worried about here is that by posting something like, ‘Watch out for the ice,’ that it’s gonna become an opportunity for a meme, for internet fodder, for public ridicule against the Department of Homeland Security,” explained Cohen, mentioning heightening anti-ICE protests in Minnesota after the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an immigration officer.

... “When you say ‘freezing rain,’ that makes me think, ‘Oh, I’ll put on a raincoat.’ It doesn’t make me think ‘ice,'” said Tapper.

The only reason I put gas in was because I noticed the house next door has gas lines to it. I considered coming up with my own alternative system based on the mixing of chemical compounds that when combined produce heat. After the first few explosions, I abandoned it and went with gas.

During WWII Americans sacrificed a lot so that the world could be rid of the Axis. I will gladly put up with 5 or 6 dollar a gallon gas to see President Obama leave office in January 2013.

That is different perspective on the matter, but one I certainly agree with. Nice post.

The way things are set up, you don't have much choice but to "support" fossil fuels. Unless you want to go live in the woods in a minimalist sort of gig. I like to laugh about how gasoline used to be considered worthless and was just dumped out back in the nineteenth century when kerosene was the thing....gasoline is lighter and collects at the top of a refinery tank. I figure more than a few of those guys blew themselves up fooling around with gasoline.

No freezing rain yet. Just sleet. I think it's likely to get worse around 2-6. Revised estimates have been trending lower than what was expected. We shall see.

Yeah, it's hard not to support fossil fuels in our society unless you go live in a cave. Looks like I was wrong that supes was the one cheering for high dollar gas. But he jumped in and cheered for it after the fact. And I remember big ugly.....he's the one who always spoke of "the commander and chief."
