Does it defy belief to wonder if DonOLD crafted this situation in order to withdraw from NATO while blaming others? Is he capable of being this sinister and Machiavellian?'Not NATO's war': Berlin rejects US call to protect Strait of Hormuz
... "This war has nothing to do with NATO. It is not NATO's war," government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said in Berlin, as many of Washington's Western allies suggest that the US and Israel have no one but themselves to blame for the turmoil on global oil markets triggered by their war on Iran.
Trump, who has repeatedly asked allied nations to support a military mission in the Strait of Hormuz, on Sunday ramped up his rhetoric towards NATO, suggesting that the alliance might face a "very bad future" if allies don't help ensure safe passage for commercial shipping through the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman.
Countries Reject Trump’s Strait Demand, Saying ‘We Did Not Start War’
Luxembourg - NoOpps.... British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said Monday the United Kingdom was working with allies on a plan to reopen the strait but would not be drawn into a wider war. Starmer also said there was the possibility of using mine-hunting drones that the U.K. has in the region, but the country is unlikely to dispatch a warship.... Ahead of a meeting of European Union foreign ministers, the bloc’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Brussels was weighing two types of naval missions to help reopen the strait.
She said that Brussels EU could expand its Aspides naval mission to protect shipping in the Red Sea up into the Persian Gulf or form a "coalition of the willing" with countries contributing military capacity.
Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Rome backs reinforcing EU naval missions in the Red Sea but: "I don’t think these missions can be expanded to include the Strait of Hormuz, especially since they are anti-piracy and defensive missions."
Catherine King, a member of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's Cabinet, said that for Canberra, sending ships to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz was "not something that we've been asked or that we're contributing to."
Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi also said Tokyo did not currently plan to dispatch naval vessels to escort ships in the Middle East but added that "we are continuing to examine what Japan can do independently and what can be done within the legal framework."![]()

The Shrubbery did far better than that and Obama joined a coalition, including local support, to attack Libya and depose Gaddafi.

President for the people.
He went on to further suggest states can raise their taxes to pay for it.
And let's not forget the soon to be forgotten campaign promises to not touch Medicaid and Medicare.

Ok, so now the DOJ is part of the judiciary and gets to decide what's unconstitutional?
Make it make sense.
Justice Department says Trump can keep his presidential records
Donald Trump does not need to turn over his presidential records to the National Archives, the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel concluded in an opinion this week.
Rejecting a decades-old law enacted after the Watergate scandal to ensure the preservation of presidential records, Assistant Attorney General T. Elliot Gaiser stated that the Presidential Records Act was unconstitutional and "untethered from any valid and identifiable legislative purpose."

To be fair, the AG has long been considered the arbiter of constitutionality until the courts specifically overrule her/him. Often, it rests on how broadly 'specifically' is defined.GoCubsGo wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 9:29 pmOk, so now the DOJ is part of the judiciary and gets to decide what's unconstitutional?

Not sure if I'd call prosecutorial decisions arbiters of the constitution but I guess it's what we've got, but this is different.Vrede too wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 10:51 pm

Preemptively declaring an existing law unconstitutional that's never been tested in court?

I think the issue is one of terminology. Some assistant AG can declare anything he wants, and act on it, but that doesn't make it true until the Supreme Court has ruled. What he's actually issued is an opinion, which will of course be challenged in court.
