President Donald Trump defended Chinese purchases of U.S. farmland during a trip to Beijing this week, arguing that restricting foreign ownership would hurt American farmers by driving down land values.

The remarks, delivered during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, marked a sharp reversal from Trump’s previous hardline stance on Chinese ownership of American agricultural land and immediately intensified concern among farmers and national security hawks already uneasy about Beijing’s growing footprint in U.S. agriculture.

“You want to see farm prices drop, you want to see farmers lose a lot of money? Just take that out of the market,” Trump said when asked about Chinese nationals purchasing farmland and land near military installations.

I started to joke "the art of the fail" but then I realized Trump hasn't failed at anything that matters to him. He lives in ridiculous luxury, gets constant adulation, exerts enormous power over others, has few if any effective limits, and rolls in billions to himself. He's only an abject failure in things that matter to everybody else.

Sen. Thom Tillis seemed to take a "nothing to lose" approach during a scathing CNN interview on Sunday.

Outgoing North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis (R) went all-in on his criticism of President Donald Trump and his administration during a scorched-earth appearance on this weekend’s “State of the Union.”

Seeming to embrace a “nothing to lose” strategy while talking to CNN’s Jake Tapper, he railed against a potential peace deal with Iran, the president’s freshly allocated “Anti-Weaponization Fund” and Trump’s candidate of choice in a hotly contested GOP runoff for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas.

Tillis, who last year announced he would retire when his term wraps at the start of 2027, called the Department of Justice’s $1.776 billion settlement pool for what it described as “victims of lawfare” a “bogus ... payout pot” that he found “stupid on stilts.”

“You’re talking about people who assaulted Capitol police officers on January the 6th, were then convicted,” he said. “Many of them pled guilty, or they were convicted by a jury of their peers. They could be eligible for this.”

Not that I agree with the hawkish Mike Pompeo, but it's funny that Steven Cheung screeches about "professionals," when the topic is foreign and military policy.
