In Memoriam

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

My immediate knee jerk reaction is that its really strange to appoint an immediate family member to a senate position as it reeks of nepotism, but it looks like it's been done before, albeit not super common. It sounds like it's generally done when there's a short stint left in the term, and done so as to not give possible candidates any incumbency advantage when the election happens shortly after the appointment.

I was worried someone like Nancy Mace would get the appointment.
She'll be a good drone for seven months and do as she's told.

Mary Bono replace Sonny in Congress, but she was actually elected. And, despite having about the same qualifications as Graham, she was re-elected for 5 or six terms and did a pretty decent job as repugs go. And sure, everybody understands having a placeholder, but somehow it still seems wrong to complain about Biden's autopen and put in a Senator that will be totally run by the staff.

Sort of amazing that an emergency election will be held within three weeks, hardly any money will be spent and a candidate chosen, most likely after a runoff.

Wham Bam!

How screwed up is our election process?

Graham has always been a tick stuck to the groin of the state of South Carolina my entire time here.
And you're not done with the Grahams yet. :angry-banghead: :violin:

The timing required a quick response and resolution. Time will tell if the SC GOP is able to provide citizens a viable process.
