2026 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Early this year it was already looking shaky for DonOLD and the GQP. All that Dems could hope for to put a lock on Nov was for continuing obfuscation on the Epstein Files release and for an unwinnable War of Choice against Iran that would skyrocket fuel prices. Missions accomplished. Thank you, MAGA.

Convicted sex offender offered opening prayer at rally for GOP Senate nominee in North Carolina

 Smart
... The episode occurred with two months to go in a marquee Senate race that could help decide which party controls the chamber after the November elections. It risks undermining one of Whatley's central campaign arguments — that his Democratic opponent, former Gov. Roy Cooper, is soft on crime. And it could feed into an advertising blitz by Democrats that has targeted the Republican candidate's association with another convicted sex offender, a former GOP official.
Opps
... King's prayer and Whatley's association with the former GOP official Harvey L. West Jr., the other convicted sex offender, could prove particularly problematic as the Republican Senate candidate seeks to shore up support from hard-right conservatives, said Chris Cooper, a political science professor at Western Carolina University who is not related to the former governor.

Anger in Trump's base over the government's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case pressured the president to sign legislation to release the records.

The documents, which detailed the deceased sex offender's interactions with prominent figures in politics and business, pushed suspicions about powerful people and institutions that had circulated for years on the political right into a much broader public debate.

"The far right has not coalesced behind (Whatley) and these kinds of revelations will make that problem even greater," Cooper said....
:---P The details make it even worse. :problem:

Release the Epstein Files
Thank you

He also had them recite an oath to him. These people are pathetic.
:puke-left: I have some oaths for the lot of them. :obscene-birdiered:

I liked the part when trump told them "you know what happens if you don't vote?" "You go to hell."
It's like he's telling them to vote and telling them to "go to hell" if they don't.
He's flooding the airwaves with dishonest anti-Cooper (US Senate) ads. We're already in hell.
:angry-banghead:
 I was going to mention how Whatley had a convicted sex offender praising him, but I checked the next page and see that you've already noted it. Looks like Republicans just don't bother to hide their hypocrisy anymore. "No men in women's sports, but let me introduce my good friend and convicted sex crime buddy."

Whatley is not a good candidate for the GOP. Cooper will have to have a major screw up to lose.

Ftr, SoupySales has been predicting Cooper's victory since early this year. Idk if that reflects his own respect for the pol, but it's not been a radical bet to make.

This could have gone in the Can't make this (stuff) up thread.
Tucker Carlson backs Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan Senate race
Mike Rogers is ‘unfit to serve’, right-wing commentator writes, after wave of Islamophobic abuse against El-Sayed and Zohran Mamdani over 9/11

... For El-Sayed, it included accusations that he didn’t sufficiently care about American victims of the attacks given that he’d made statements criticizing the War on Terror launched in their wake, including one where he mentioned that he would spend September 11th mourning the attacks’ victims, and the next day mourning victims of the wars.

Carlson, who is now the most vocal critic of Donald Trump’s war with Iran on the right, leapt to El-Sayed’s defense on Friday, the anniversary of the attacks, after Mike Rogers’ campaign said El-Sayed’s attitude was “disgusting”.

“Hold on a second. Disgusting? Understanding that the Bush administration was wrong to kill hundreds of thousands of people and waste trillions of dollars in Iraq, even though, again, Iraq did not do 9/11, is disgusting?” asked Carlson.

“El-Sayed did not celebrate airplane hijackings or cheerlead Al-Qaeda; he simply said that the U.S. conducting terrorism of its own in response to 9/11 was not exactly an appropriate reaction. He is obviously right,” wrote Carlson.

Carlson is passionately opposed to the war in Iran and called the strikes launched by the U.S. and Israel to begin the war in February “disgusting” and “evil”. In June, he warned that the war would be the end of both the Trump presidency and the Maga movement, predicting that it would consume both, leaving the president’s legacy in tatters.

“What’s the Bush presidency about? It’s about the Iraq war and the financial collapse of 2008. Those are its defining facts. And that will be you,” Carlson said he told Trump during a Sky News interview. “It doesn’t matter what else ... you’re the Iran war guy if you do this. He knew that. Boy, did he know that. But he did it anyways.”
 :happy-cheerleaderkid:
The latest remark from Carlson is bad news for Rogers, as it signals that the efforts of his campaign to paint his opponent as a radical extremist aren’t paying off.
Polling has trended in El-Sayed’s favor since the primary and support for Trump’s war in Iran continues to drop as well. The president’s own approval ratings hover in the 30s, dragged down by economic woes brought on by the war.
:---P
... But El-Sayed’s win of the primary in Michigan followed a bitterly divisive campaign against him by AIPAC and supporters of the Democratic Party’s relationship with Israel, which has frayed severely since the Israeli siege of Gaza began in 2023. The primary fight mirrored the New York mayoral race won by Mamdani, who faced a similar wave of anti-Muslim attacks labeling him a “jihadist” and supporter of radical Islamist terror groups, cheered on by a right-wing media sphere and even some conservative Democrats....

It's anybody's guess whether Carlson is now saying things he actually believes. Hard to grasp any credibility after being a shill for so many years. And Fox still functions as a mere propaganda outlet of the GQP with no shortage of willing liars and whiners. Republicans wake up every morning, decide who or what to hate, and let Fox know what those things are.

It's possible that Sen John Fetterman (DINO-PA) will officially join the GQP  . If so, it would mean that the Dems will need to flip 5 seats to win a Senate majority. :angry-banghead:
Maybe not. After he's tarred, feathered, and run out of PA on a rail, they'll have a special election.
 The Dems could take in millions selling tickets.

John Fetterman spent a weekend at the Murdochs’ Montana ranch — Democrats noticed

:puke-left:

... Shortly after the retreat, it had been reported that Fetterman named the one condition that would move him to abandon the Democratic Party and become a Republican.

“If our party ever becomes, and just make it official, as the anti-Israel party … that’s when I would leave because that’s a bit of moral clarity for me,” he said at The Hill Nation Summit.
Does anti-genocide count? How about anti-apartheid? Sounds like he has a ready-made excuse.

There's a reason he's acting out.

I hope it is true his advisors are providing honest feedback. I accept he should use discretion with where he campaigns. He tends to motivate those who oppose them.
