The goal was to get a "win" and feed his ego.
Another hollow victory.

Re: Greenland
Supsale, do you consume any foreign media, including media in languages other than English?
The reason I ask is it's interesting to see what others think about the present day United States. For example, during the constant presidential shit posting threatening to annex Greenland, I think it was important to read Danish and Greenlandic media, including social media. I speak neither, language, but language is no barrier with modern technology.
Needless to say, public opinion of the United States has completely cratered with many allies and their citizens that formerly had a rather high degree of respect and admiration for our country. The "win" you mentioned that was the result of Trump's tactic of issuing threats against the sovereignty of our allies is one such catalyst.
I'd argue that soft power is as important as flexing ones might. American soft power is quickly diminishing.

Some people probably get so comfortable in their own surroundings that they think what other countries think isn't important.

I think the word is narcissistic.
Seems to be contagious with Trump Devotion Syndrome.
Wonder where they get that from?

Respect is preferable over popularity. Some countries are envious of the success of the USA. I am the first to acknowledge that Trump's style is not popular with numerous countries.

Does one typically respect someone that threatens and belittles and bullies them? No. They try to extract themselves from that relationship and move on.O Really wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2026 5:09 pmSome say to gain respect, give respect. Respect is not the same as fear.
I have many people I respect and admire that I'd help in a heartbeat. None of them have threatened me.

It's also a lot easier to lose respect than to earn it. Examples such as Bill Cosby come to mind. Respected and loved by all for years until...
But nobody has ever respected a bully, no matter what.

Re: Greenland
Or a rapist. Dementia Don clearly lost respect over Greenland, if he had any to begin with. Ironically, more respect goes to:
Opps. Great job, MAGA.Trump’s push to acquire Greenland almost broke NATO. The winner of it all may be ... Greenland.
People take part in a march ending in front of the US consulate, under the slogan, Greenland belongs to the Greenlandic people, in Nuuk, Greenland, Saturday March 15, 2025.
... While the new defense agreement is a bit broader, the United States already had extensive military access under an existing 1951 deal and all the gains laid out in the agreement signed on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday could, ostensibly, have been achieved by asking nicely a year ago. The trans-Atlantic distrust created since the end of 2024 seems a very high price to pay for what may ultimately be a fairly incremental gain.
Interestingly, one place may emerge from this standoff as the real winner: Greenland itself.
The promised investments and contracts may never fully materialize, but the episode marks a major step forward in its push for greater autonomy and a more influential seat at the table. Greenland is no longer merely the subject of foreign policy decided by its former colonial rulers. Increasingly, it is helping to shape it....

I disagree with you. You can still respect a person or entity despite them not having any relevance to oneself. You can respect an entity despite them not having the ability to weild force and power against oneself.
In the geopolitical arena: If respect is an indication of geopolitical relevance, then Iran would also fall into the category of respectable nations. They currently have a chokehold over the Strait of Hormuz. That action places them amongst the most geopolitically relevant nations on earth right now. Do you respect them? I don't. I don't respect Russia either.

It's just one source here, but there are other similar studies with comparable findings. The US doesn't fare too well in terms of international respect anymore.

Has anybody else noticed that Tru*p always wears the same tie Rodney Dangerfield wore?According to the RepCore Nations 2026 study by Reputation Lab, Japan ranks as the number one most respected nation globally, leading a top tier dominated by stable democracies.
Top Respected Nations (Top to Bottom Tiers)The RepCore Nations index evaluates the 60 largest global economies based on public trust, admiration, governance, and esteem.
The Top Tier (Strongest Reputation):Japan,Canada,Switzerland,Australia,Denmark, Followed closely by Nordic and Western stalwarts like Norway, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, and the Netherlands.
The Middle Tier (Moderate / Average Standing):Nations like the United States (ranking 48th in recent evaluations due to continuous sharp declines in G7 perception), France, and Italy occupy mid-to-lower moderate levels.
The Bottom Tier (Weakest Reputation):Russia, Iraq, Iran (moving into last place in recent reporting)
US 48th out of 60, a drop from a previous rank of 30.
