Dammit Boys! Eat Your Hearts Out!

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

As has been explained to you, Roland Deschain, it did not take much detective work. Yours was readily visible to non-moderators when you were using the now closed gray section at the page bottom.
A different locale, but not on opposite sides of the country. Dryer Vent used a service that posted from a desktop at her workplace. Someone we know used to use proxy servers to post under a different IP address. In that, case, said person might have shown up as posting from BF Egypt.

That's not what the nonexistent Leon Lyons said. He just plugged it in, turned it on, and started posting from 2,000 miles away. Ain't gonna happen.

Mine will say I'm posting from a server in a small town about 10 miles away.

But say the impossible happens. What are the odds that nonexistent Leon's IP address would be so close to Hendersonville?

opps. :---P
Your desperation is obvious. You don't share an IP address with anyone. AT&T does not base its IP addresses in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Those of us who have AT&T can type "what is my ip" in Google, and Google will display your IP address. Then go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip-lookup . (Actually, I think you can just go there first, and the site will automatically detect your IP.)

It won't be 2,000 miles away.

My Florida AT&T gives me a static IP that is the same no matter what device I use. (Got an IP ban years back. Tried two desktops and three laptops -- all the same IP.)

Well, that does it for me. Leon posted a picture of Arizona from off the internet (not a personal picture, mind you), so I'm fully convinced that he is, indeed, in Arizona.

Leon, please forgive me for not believing that you read the ever-interesting forum threads, going back six months or more, and made your first post about the Henderson sheriff's assault vehicle. And forgive me for ever doubting that your soft-spoken, bashful little self sat around for months before working up the nerve to make that first post. I'm beginning to realize just how traumatic that must have been for you.

And forgive me for doubting your story about being with the DEA, even though you give not the slightest indication of have any knowledge of the DEA, have no degree, have no military service, etc. And forgive me for thinking you don't exist because you don't exist on the world wide web. (I know that, even though everyone else here will show up on an internet search, you, for some reason, won't. Must be that DEA cover.)

And forgive me for thinking that just because an Arizona computer posts from Hendersonville, North Carolina, you don't live in Arizona.

Yeppers. You done posted a picture of Arizona. I believe you now.

Dryer Vent wrote:Query: If I am using my computer in AZ at my son's house through his router, am I transmitting my IP or my son's
If you have several devices behind a router, they'll all share the same IP address as far as the outside world is concerned even though each individual machine will be assigned a unique IP address by your router.

For instance: I have a four devices connected to my router. To everyone else in the world, all four devices will have the same IP address. Even though it appears your machine has an IP of, say, 192.168.1.100, this is only used internally by your personal router. Like ombudsman said, you can visit a website to find your "true" IP address that your devices all share.

So how can all devices share the same IP? Well each device is distinguished by a MAC address. This is a unique identifier for your device (in particular, your network card that connects you to the internets). When a response is sent back to your IP that is shared by all devices, your router looks at the MAC and says "Which one of my boys has a MAC of xxxxx?" and forwards the data to that device.

Using this knowledge it's fairly easy to intercept these communications and do malicious things. For example, you can make your computer tell everyone that it's actually "that guy over there" and trick the router into sending responses to the wrong recipient, paving the way for a man in the middle attack. So if you have a wireless network and you live in a populated area, be sure to require a password!
You aren't doing it wrong if no one knows what you are doing.

The gray conversation at the bottom of the page where IPs were visible to anyone has been shut down, plus I and I assume the other moderators no longer have access to IPs with regular posts. Probably only banni knows now.
Good thing too. All you great internet detectives would have gone nuts trying to figure how one person could have so many different IP's seeing as how I've been on five different non-private terminals.

I can use thousands of terminals at UF that all post from one IP address. It's the server, not the individual device.

Oh, so you mean that since there is one central server (like the one for City of Asheville) all the terminals connected to that server (hundreds) will show the same IP address??? Is that what you are now saying?? Just to be clear on that seeing as how some of the resident dumbasses here seem to think that only one person can post from one IP. Thanks stinger.....you just proved ombudsman to be an absolute failure as an internet detective and a total jackass to boot :-H

There you go, comprehending about 10% of what's been said and jumping to conclusions again. It all depends on how the city's routed. I shoot down your idea that posting from different terminals in the same building would yield different IP addresses.

Everything goes to one central server. Either what you said is true and all the terminals on that server will show the server IP or you lied...which is it??

Not me you are arguing with this time fuck stick....your butt buddy stinger debunked your entire claim by posting what I knew as fact the whole time. You were just so busy spouting off that cock holster, you forgot to apply what little mental capacity you had to the issue. I know it has to suck to be humiliated in front of all your friends like this and I didn't have to do a thing except sit back, and wait for your alligator mouths to over ride them jaybird brains. Don't go away mad though....just go away! :oII

Or you still don't know what you're talking about. Your ISP assigns your IP address. Your organization designs the system determining how many servers you have and how many addresses you need. I have no idea how many servers the City of Asheville or Buncombe County uses. Stop trying to apply what I said about a couple of buildings at the University of Florida to your situation. All I did was correct your mistaken notion that IP addresses are assigned to individual devices.

Really? I think you just debunked yourself.

Why are you backtracking now liar. You made a rather definitive statement there a bit ago. I'm not backtracking or lying. You're just illiterate and incapable of intelligent thought.

Typical Republitard. Doesn't know what he's talking about. Can't understand the issue. Doesn't know the facts. Assumes he knows more than anyone else and is automatically right because, after all, he was smart enough to vote for Bush twice. Accuses the other person of lying because the facts don't fit his belief that he must be right.

Must be a scandal. Call Darrell Issa so he can start another witch hunt.

You said the terminals would have different IP addies. I said it was the server, not the terminal that determined the IP addie. That is true.

I said that I could post from any one of a thousand terminals at UF (plus or minus a hundred -- computer science building) and all would show the same IP addie. That is true and debunks your foolish notion that individual terminals have anything to do with IP addies.

You made a stupid assumption that there is one central server for the whole City of Asheville. (And you stupidly added "Is that what you're now saying?" as if I had said something different. It wasn't what I was "now saying." It is what is. I didn't change my story.

I never said everything goes to one central server. That's not a requirement. UF has a large number of servers. I can go to a different building and post from anyone of hundreds of terminals and get a different IP addie. Different server; different address. How hard is that to understand?

And that's where you jumped to another conclusion -- the City of Asheville has one single server. I never said nor implied that.

And after you jumped to your conclusion, I gave a more in-depth explanation that the ISP gives you your IP address. That is true.

I said that whatever entity you work for decides how many servers, and where, and that determines how many IP addresses you ISP will give you. That is also true.

Now, so that you don't come off as a complete and utter illiterate dumbass, point out where I backtracked or lied?

Opps. Couldn't do it? Well, you must be a complete and utter illiterate dumbass who let your big mouth spout off before you thought ... wait. You are incapable of thought.

The only think I debunked was your mistaken notion that terminals determine IP addresses. Admit your stupidity and move on.
