Takei mixed his metaphors. Standing vigil at his funeral with a sign is just a particular behaviour. Being glad he's gone, including dancing on his grave, is a reasonable response to the ending of something really bad, which could be the death of a monster, or the passing of a hurricane. Practically everyone dies eventually - some deaths are grieved; some are celebrated. It's really the same thing.
