Well the original question was about why "they" hate us. Expecting non- or semi-democratic regimes to take the same attitude as the US (i.e., "ignore them") is indeed imposing our standards on them. My argument isn't whether places like Uganda are evil, or whether US actions are well-intentioned or reasonable. My argument is that those countries reaction is understandable.

Don't be such a whiny brat, I never had any doubts about it; the Bible states what will become of these "great victories". Your "pathetic ilk" may win the major battles, but the final war is still to be fought.Vrede wrote:"Your pathetic ilk is reforming or dieing (sic) out and tolerance and equality are winning in every single venue - business, polls, legislatures, among youth overwhelmingly, every recent popular vote, and even now the churches."
Your family lineage may have evolved, mine didn't. Did it hurt when your tails fell off?Vrede wrote:"The whole Adam and Eve thing is complete poppycock, though. We evolved."

A church is a place to worship, praise God, and learn what sin is, and to shun it. I doubt very seriously God is in any of those places that call themselves "churches".Vrede wrote:"Not with so many churches now gay tolerant. Current events much?"
I said it before....it's about the money. Fortunately, there are still overwhelming numbers of churches that are "bigoted" and view homosexuality for what it is.....abominable sin. Deal with it.
No, I don't "current events" much; it's disheartening to see/hear Satan at work; he's the one winning "in every single venue", like or lump it.

And yet women speaking in Church is an abominable sin according to the very sources you cite regarding homosexuality. And yet you don't shun that abominable sin. As usual you're just cherry-picking verses from the Bible to match your phobias, bigotries and hatreds.Mr.B wrote:A church is a place to worship, praise God, and learn what sin is, and to shun it. A more accurate conclusion is that an increasing numbers of churches are recognizing your hate for what it is.....abominable sin.

You've quoted Paul's Letter to the Ephesians and Paul's Letter to the Corinthians, both from the New Testament, as the final say on morality. As your "proof" that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination. Meanwhile, Paul was crystal clear about women speaking in church:
1 Corinthians 14: 34-35 - "Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church."
That's as unambiguous and authoritative a directive as any in either testament regarding gays. There are churches in the US which don't claim to know better than Paul; a Baptist Church in Arizona that bans women from speaking in church was mentioned in the Religion thread.
When this was pointed out, you admitted:
As always, you're cherry-picking the rules that match your phobias, prejudices and hatreds, and ignoring the ones you don't like.Mr.B wrote:Women are allowed to speak in our church;

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I'd say we can't comprehend how you don't know. Also, how you think slavery is in any way moral. Owning any human being is absurd, and I would reject any god that approved of it regardless of the consequences. There are also descriptions in the bible on how bad you may beat your slaves... I guess you haven't read that either.
I'm also amazed you didn't know women weren't allowed to speak or have any authority over man. I guess everyone leaves out the parts that no one agrees with anymore.

I never said I supported or condoned slavery; I too KNOW it's absurd, degrading, and downright vile. I only spoke of what the Apostle Paul wrote; I didn't say his words were enforced into law; hence my remark that we don't know how well some masters treated their slaves; or how bad for that matter. I'm amazed that you and rstrong; intelligent as you two are, can't see through your hatred of God to comprehend simple statements. I try to keep my comments simple; not using $3 words, and you still can't understand...gimme a break!

"Speaking", as Paul wrote, is preaching. Churches that view the Bible as God's Word do not allow women to preach. Inasmuch as God ordained and blessed the union of a man and woman as husband and wife, the man is to have authority over his household and the church. Women are allowed to speak, i.e. teach in church, just as the wife is allowed to speak and make decisions at home. You and rstrong are so caught up in your hatred of God that you'll use the most miniscule of idiocies to refute Biblical scripture, twisting them around to suit your twisted way of thinking.Get a life...you're gonna need it.

I don't see the "twisting" Mr.B. The Bible says what it says. When they quote, you say "but that's not what it means." Wouldn't it make more sense to simply acknowledge that customs and culture wasn't the same a couple of thousand or so years ago and that much of the Bible really isn't applicable except in principle? Even if you don't work at Wal-Mart, couldn't "slave" be updated to "employee"?

Not according to your designated authority on morality. One more time:Mr.B wrote:Women are allowed to speak, i.e. teach in church, just as the wife is allowed to speak and make decisions at home.
1 Corinthians 14: 34-35 - "Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church."
You're just cherry picking verses from the Bible to match your personal phobias, bigotries and hatreds, and ignoring the verses you don't like.
You are refuting Biblical scripture where you find it inconvenient, and quoting it where if backs your hatreds. Your selection is merely different from mine.Mr.B wrote:You and rstrong are so caught up in your hatred of God that you'll use the most miniscule of idiocies to refute Biblical scripture, twisting them around to suit your twisted way of thinking.
I'm not twisting Biblical scripture in the slightest. Paul's ban on women speaking in church - which I've quoted here repeatedly to let it speak for itself - is as unambiguous and authoritative a directive as any in either testament regarding gays. There are churches in the US which follow that ban.
Or to be more accurate you condoned it, justified it with your claim that slave owners treated slaves "like brothers", doubled down on the claim at least twice, and now you're finally back-peddlingMr.B wrote:I never said I supported or condoned slavery; I too KNOW it's absurd, degrading, and downright vile.
I'm amazed that you; intelligent as you are, can't see through your hatred of fellow humans to comprehend simple statements.
