Bad weather comin'....!
Our back yard is enclosed on three sides by a 4' high chain-link fence. The remaining side is enclosed with a five foot board fence.
We left home early this morning for a Dr. appt. When we got back home, there was a solid-white white squirrel sitting on the top rail of the chain link fence at the end of the driveway. He was SOLID-WHITE, not mottled with grey as in being crossed with a grey squirrel like in the photo.
I thought that was unusual, because I rarely see squirrels sit on the fence rail. He just sat there staring at us, and didn't even flee when we got out of the car. I thought nothing more of it and went in the house, out of the cold wind that was blowing rather stiffly.
Looking out my kitchen window.....lo and behold! There was another SOLID-WHITE squirrel sitting on the board fence! Now, that's really odd, I thought. Turning away from the window, I though nothing more of it.
Later this afternoon we left to visit the M-I-L in the nursing home. Passing my neighbor's house...what do we see but ANOTHER SOLID-WHITE squirrel sitting on the top rail of my neighbor's chain-link fence! My mind began racing, my heart was beating wildly! Surely these sightings had to be a sign of something foreboding! Stopping the car right there I dug out my trusty calculator and my Farmer's Almanac and began figuring, and came up with the answer. Took a bit to figure it out, but it finally hit me!
Symbolized by the solid-whiteness of the squirrels, before winter is over, there will be a 4 to 4-1/2 foot
snowfall, the depth determined by the height of the fences.
Goes to show....squirrels know a bit about climate change and global warming.....all we have to do is know how to read the signs!!!
