I thought it was at the discretion of the election chief, hence the Trump whining that O Really mentions, but rstrong is correct in most or all states including NC.

This is what happens if you're still in line to vote when the polls close

I've never seen or heard of anywhere that didn't let everyone in line at closing time vote. But apparently it's become a bigger issue lately with the voter suppression efforts, curtailing polling places, shortening schedules, etc.

I've always hated lines (and being on telephone hold) more than most. It's one reason that I always vote absentee. I'd be one of the voters to just leave.

At my polling place, after showing your ID you're given a ~3x3 inch piece of white paper with nothing on it. This indicates you've checked in and are ready to vote. Upon voting you give this "ticket" to the poll worker who gets your booth ready.

Now, ok. I'm not all that concerned about voter fraud. But it seems like this whole system they have in place using this white square piece of paper as proof you've shown your ID makes the whole showing your ID thing completely moot.

I could literally roll up to my polling location and walk in with a piece of paper as "proof" I've been cleared to vote. In the chaos of my polling location it would be no problem to sneak in line behind the voting booths.

Think of the opposite situation: Someone has been waiting in line for hours. They need to use the bathroom. On return, without that paper, they're told that it's too late to get in line. If they were in it, they should have stayed in it.

The former situation may happen, but the latter would be far more common.

The Hispanics, Asians and blacks are given different colored papers so that they can be diverted to the "special" voting booths.

They knew the only way to bring fundamental change was to crash the system through NONCOMPLIANCE. Voting is COMPLIANCE. Period.

That link contains enough deluded bullshit for three Trump rallies and a Christian book store. And that's being unreasonably polite.

Non-voting isn't noncompliance. It's self-irrelevance. It does nothing whatsoever to "crash the system." The folks he imagines he's protesting against are probably the very people given more power by him and his friends not voting.

The "Icelandic Revolution" wasn't done through non-voting; It was done through voting. Kicking the old guard out. The pirate politics and direct democracy Pirate Party won 3 seats in Parliament, giving them a strong voice. And power, as they could be tie-breakers in any parliamentary votes.

And when the next leader wasn't entirely sincere - the Panama Papers leak exposed his offshore bank account - he was kicked out too. In the October 29 elections the Pirate Party won 10 seats in Parliament. That was done through people VOTING, not staying home and calling petulantly calling it "noncompliance."

I voted for Hillary in '92, '96, primary of '08, and primary and general of 16. I guess you have to be persistent. Mine this year was a protest vote against stupidity.
