Guns, race, religion, terror, wingnut thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Tim Walz: "America is better than this."

No, Tim, it's not. Maybe Minnesota and some other select places are, but America as a whole, by intent or neglect, has twice elected and continues to support a person actively attempting to make the Constitution worthless, among other things a psychopath does.

What we used to think of as "America" wouldn't put up with a fraction of what happens now, and in fact didn't for over 200 years.

... Stephen Spencer Pittman, identified by the FBI as the person responsible for an early-morning fire Saturday at Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson, attacked the historic site – leaving its walls severely charred and forcing it to close indefinitely – “due to (the) building’s Jewish ties,” according to an FBI criminal complaint.

By evening, the 19-year-old was arrested at a hospital and charged with “arson of property used in interstate commerce or used in an activity affecting interstate commerce” after his father called the bureau, saying his son confessed to him, the complaint filed Monday said. If convicted, Pittman could face between five and 20 years in prison, the Department of Justice said in a news release.

On Tuesday, Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens II announced Pittman has also been indicted on a state charge of first-degree arson of a place of worship with a hate crime enhancement, according to a statement obtained by Mississippi Free Press. If convicted on the state charge, he faces up to 60 years in prison.
Good on Dad for turning him in, but what was this kid taught that he was literally bragging to Dad about his crime while he was committing it?

Before talking to authorities, Pittman told his father through laughter that he broke a window of the Beth Israel Congregation building, went inside and lit it on fire, the criminal complaint says, noting Pittman told his father he “finally got them.”

... Pittman’s social media bios describe him as a “follower of Christ” and a “Fitness/ High Drive Coach” who can “help you get shredded, boost testosterone, drive, & discipline.”

On Instagram posts and a website registered to him, Pittman references Bible verses and promises to help clients achieve a “faith-based transformation.”
Bigoted xtian terrorist. Likely RW politically, but that's not clear from the article. We're not going to learn that this is Gaza solidarity terrorism.
Pittman was found at a local hospital with non-life-threatening burn injuries, said Charles Felton, chief of investigations for the Jackson Fire Department’s Arson Investigation Division.

Monday, Pittman appeared in federal court via video conference call from a hospital bed with his hands visibly bandaged, The Associated Press reported. When read his rights at the hearing, Pittman said, “Jesus Christ is Lord,” the outlet reported.

Man arrested in the attack on Ilhan Omar is a convicted felon who made pro-Trump posts

The man who sprayed an unknown substance on Democratic U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar at a town hall in Minneapolis is a convicted felon who has made online posts supportive of President Donald Trump.

Anthony Kazmierczak, 55, was convicted of felony auto theft in 1989, has been arrested multiple times for driving under the influence, and has had numerous traffic citations, Minnesota court records show. There are also indications he has had significant financial problems, including two bankruptcy filings.
 Typical Trumpette.
Police say Kazmierczak used a syringe to spray an unknown liquid at Omar during Tuesday's event after she called for the abolishment of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the firing or impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem following the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by immigration enforcement officers....

Omar continued speaking for about 25 minutes after Kazmierczak was ushered out, saying she wouldn't be intimidated. While leaving, she said she felt a little flustered but wasn’t hurt, and that she was going to be screened by a medical team.

She later posted on X: “I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work. I don’t let bullies win.”
:clap: :-||
... In social media posts, Kazmierczak described himself as a former network engineer who lives in Minneapolis. Among other things, he made comments critical of former President Joe Biden and referred to Democrats as “angry and liars.”

“Trump wants the US is stronger and more prosperous,” Kazmierczak wrote. “Stop other countries from stealing from us. Bring back the fear that enemies back away from and gain respect that If anyone threatens ourselves or friends we will (expletive) them up.”

In another post, Kazmierczak asked, “When will descendants of slaves pay restitution to Union soldiers families for freeing them/dying for them, and not sending them back to Africa?”
A racist moronic MAGAt, surprise surprise.
... Following Tuesday's attack on Omar, U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement that the agency was “working with our federal partners to see this man faces the most serious charges possible to deter this kind of violence in our society.” ...

I bet it was his own pee that he sprayed on her. that would seem to fit the mentality of this guy. I wonder how many more of these nuts trump will manage to activate? Just today, he's got the FBI down in Fulton County trying to "prove" election fraud that he's been lying about for years. I think he wants to do this in other states and then lie and whine (invoke trump LAW) that he's entitled to another term as president (he's still afraid of going to jail) because of all the voter fraud "which has now been proved and exposed" is what he'll say. Wait and see. Those Epstein files must be really something.

Shut up, I do NOT have a 21 year old son or grandson.
Armed man shot and killed after entering secure perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, Secret Service says

An armed man drove into the secure perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Florida, before being shot and killed early Sunday morning, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service.

Although Trump often spends weekends at his resort, he was at the White House when the breach occurred around 1:30 a.m.

The man had a gas can and a shotgun, authorities said. Investigators identified him as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin of North Carolina, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to discuss it publicly, and authorities said his family had recently reported him missing.
Fool didn't even check DonOld's schedule.
... Investigators have not identified a motive....
Anti-Trumper? Misguided attempt to protect Dozy Don from _______?
Martin was described by family as quiet and averse to guns

On Sunday afternoon, vehicles blocked the entrance to a property listed in public records as an address for Martin at the end of a private road in Cameron, North Carolina.
A town of 244 people in south central NC.
Braeden Fields, Martin’s cousin, reacted with disbelief. He described Martin as quiet, afraid of guns and from a family of avid Trump supporters.

... “We are big Trump supporters, all of us. Everybody,” Fields said, but his cousin was “real quiet, never really talked about anything.” ...

Ga. teacher gets nearly $300K in settlement over Charlie Kirk social media post

https://www.ajc.com/education/2026/07/g ... edia-post/
High school English teacher Michelle Mickens was one of several educators across the country who were removed from the classroom for a post related to Kirk’s 2025 death. In a lawsuit filed in October, she accused the small school system outside Athens of violating her right to free speech.

After posting a quote from Kirk on her private social media account, school system leaders pressured Mickens to resign, according to the original complaint.

...

Plaintiffs in similar cases alleging First Amendment violations have received hundreds of thousands of dollars in settlement agreements in recent months. A professor at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville was awarded $1.9 million; an employee at Indiana University will receive $225,000; and an Iowa teacher won more than $200,000, according to published reports.

...

On the day Kirk was shot and killed while onstage at an event at Utah Valley University, Mickens posted a quote from Kirk on her private social media account after work hours from her personal computer, according to the lawsuit.

“‘I think it’s worth it. I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. — Charlie Kirk,’” the post read. It did not include any commentary from Mickens.
The Kirk assassination aftermath was so stupid. Especially this instance. She literally only quoted something Kirk said.

Teen girl who livestreamed San Diego mosque shooting faces murder charges, prosecutors say

A 17-year-old girl accused of livestreaming a deadly attack on a San Diego mosque is now facing murder charges.

The North Carolina teen was indicted Monday on three counts of murder and one count of conspiracy in the San Diego mosque shooting that killed three men, authorities said.

The girl, identified only as a high school student in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, is accused of livestreaming the attack in which two shooters — Caleb Vazquez, 18, and Cain Clark, 17 — opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego on May 18, Forsyth County Dist. Atty. Jim O'Neill announced at a news conference Monday. She is also accused of publishing the shooters' manifesto in an effort to spread their credo of hate, and of failing to report the planned mosque attack to law enforcement....

MAGA and the GQP have been trying to make Abdul El-Sayed the poster child for so-called Dem extremism.
Republican seeking to implicate Abdul El-Sayed over 9/11 voted twice against benefits for first responders

Mike Rogers, a Michigan Republican US Senate candidate, has sought in recent weeks to create controversy over old tweets his Democratic opponent, Abdul El-Sayed posted about 9/11. He has for example, falsely suggested El-Sayed, who is Muslim, said the US deserved the attack.
RepuQ = LIAR
But, as critics have noted, Rogers has twice voted against healthcare and other benefits for 9/11 first responders and survivors, congressional records show. He has also helped kill other bills that would have provided benefits and healthcare to first responders nationwide.
Opps
... That drew sharp criticism this week from John Feal, a 9/11 first responder who has advocated and lobbied for legislation supporting benefit programs, and who spent 11 weeks in the hospital after a steel beam fell on his foot at ground zero. Part of his foot was amputated.

Feal told the Guardian he personally discussed the Zadroga legislation with Rogers on Congress's floor during committee debate in which Feal testified. Feal said Rogers told him first responders' health issues were a "New York problem" and asked: "Where is the money to help them going to come from?"

He called Rogers' opposition to 9/11 first responder benefits "a betrayal".
:---P
"Here's the thing: Republicans like Mike Rogers love cops and firefighters until one gets shot or burned in a fire and can't do his job," Feal said. "That's their playbook. They say: 'You're a hero. Oh, wait, you're sick? You're a drain on the municipality and the federal government. Get out of here.'"
:puke-left:
... Republicans faced enormous backlash in 2010 for their votes against the Zagroda legislation. Feal at the time told CBS News: "Whatever member of Congress voted against this bill, whether Republican or Democrat, should go to jail for manslaughter." ...
Other Rogers votes against veterans and first responders' healthcare: 2002, 2011, 2013 and 2014.

Lock Rogers up!

As usual, it's all about xtian White supremacy.

‘It’s just straight bigotry’: wave of Islamophobic rhetoric looms over US midterm elections

One of the 2 dumbest Senators leads the charge:
Within hours of Abdul El-Sayed's victory in Michigan's Democratic US Senate primary, Republican senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama declared that the party had "just voted to send a TERRORIST" to Washington.

El-Sayed – or "Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed", as Tuberville called him on X – was a "RADICAL ISLAMIST" who would "do everything he can to destroy America", he claimed.
Hate is as American as cherry pie.
It was the opening shot in what researchers who track anti-Muslim sentiment describe as the most concentrated wave of Islamophobic rhetoric in US electoral politics since the 9/11 attacks, arriving at the exact moment Muslim candidates are winning office in unprecedented numbers.

"It's probably the worst of what we've seen," said Saher Selod, director of research at the non-partisan Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU), which has tracked anti-Muslim sentiment nationally for a decade. "We're certainly seeing in 2025 and 2026, ahead of these midterms, really very Islamophobic ads – more so than what we saw after 9/11."
:(
... Anti-Muslim hate crimes reported to the FBI, which spiked to 481 in 2001 from 28 the year before, have never returned to pre-2001 levels, according to Pew's research. The ISPU separately found that 63% of Muslims reported experiencing religious discrimination in the past year, the highest share of any faith group it measures.
Set against that backdrop is a wave of Muslim electoral success. There are four Muslim members of US Congress, with a fifth likely on the way, compared with zero in 2001. Ghazala Hashmi became Virginia's first Muslim woman elected to statewide office this year, as lieutenant governor. Zohran Mamdani was inaugurated as New York's first Muslim mayor in January 2025, and El-Sayed's primary win put him on track to potentially become the first Muslim ever elected to the US Senate.

The reaction to El-Sayed's victory showed how quickly the rhetoric escalates. The Center for the Study of Organized Hate found Islamophobic posts naming El-Sayed rose by nearly 1,900% in the week after his win, from an average of 155 to more than 3,000 a day.
As I said.
... This year, Trump called El-Sayed a "jihadist" from the Oval Office, and separately claimed – without naming anyone – that "jihadists" were being elected to office "all over the place". Vice-president JD Vance, meanwhile, called El-Sayed "very, very evil" at a Michigan rally ...
More dumb and bigoted pols:
The attacks go beyond one candidate, however. Senator Ted Cruz told Fox News that El-Sayed and Mamdani were "Islamists" who "want Sharia law" and "hate Jews, they hate Christians, they hate capitalism, they hate America". Representative Nancy Mace posted that "every single Muslim holding public office in America is a trojan horse, and a threat to both national security and our republic", and followed up by writing that Islam "must be removed from civil society in the US". In March, Representative Randy Fine of Florida wrote on X, "We need more Islamophobia, not less. Fear of Islam is rational," while Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee posted that "Muslims don't belong in American society".
:obscene-birdiered:
... "With Abdul El-Sayed, we're seeing these kinds of intense Islamophobic attacks against him, as opposed to attacking his platform or critiquing his policies," Selod said. "It's a playbook. They're going to attack him for his religious identity to see if this will help pull voters away from him."

That playbook resurfaced this week in New York, where Mamdani attended the ceremony marking Friday's 25th anniversary of 9/11 at Ground Zero, as his predecessors have every year. A petition with more than 100,000 signatures, riddled with attacks, unashamedly asked him not to.

Rudy Giuliani, mayor of New York City at the time of the attacks, who is now closely aligned to Trump, claimed from thin air that Mamdani "doesn't agree that September 11 was an Islamic terrorist attack", and that his attendance "offends" him, adding even more venom against Muslims generally: "They have every desire to take us over … they want to dominate us. Mamdani is a clear supporter of that."

Giuliani offered no evidence for either claim.

Cheri Sparacio, one of the petition's organizers, whose husband died in the attacks, has said her objection is "not about the mayor's background or faith, but his public actions". Mamdani attended anyway, and on Friday morning, Mamdani and Giuliani shook hands at the ceremony.
Mamdani is the bigger man.
viewtopic.php?p=231920#p231920
... (Mobashra, associate director of Georgetown University's Bridge Initiative, which studies Islamophobia globally) Tazamal ties the current spike partly to political calculation. "Polling for Trump is low, and the GOP is the sitting party, and they haven't delivered on their promises," she said. "So instead of focusing on institutional failures and policies they haven't been able to put into place, they're stirring up hate and bigotry towards a certain group, which is a routine tactic that they do."

Caleb Elfenbein, a Grinnell College professor who has mapped Islamophobic rhetoric for years, sees a small, organized network reactivating on a predictable schedule. "It really looks, and feels, like a very cynical effort to take advantage of a general sense of fear that can be activated at any given time," he said.
Fear and loathing is the only strategy RepuQs ever have.
... Whatever happens, amid growing political mobilization among Muslim Americans and other groups, Tazamal does not expect the party to abandon this effort, or the Islamophobic rhetoric at the center of it.

"I don't think the GOP is going to do away with it," she said.
Has the GQP ever done away with its White supremacy?
