Not to cliche too much, but "1984" just keeps on being us. We're always at war. The enemy is "Eastasia" the enemy has always been Eastasia. The enemy is "Eurasia". Eastasia has always been our ally ...

Basically, the Iraq war only served to unite the Shiites in Iraq and Iran against the Sunnis. So we spent trillions and sacrificed thousands of lives to serve as as intermediary in the alliance of Iraq and Iran. The entire tihng was ignorantly pursued....no regard to regional or cultural tradition....the whole thing based on a lie (weapons of mass destruction....nuclear weapons in Iraq) just like this current one is based on the same identical lie....nuclear weapons in Iran are an imminent threat. I though insurance people considered the worst case situation in any given circumstance. Oh, I forgot to remind you that our ouster of the Sunnis in Iraq, and our total fawning over the even more radical Wahabbi Sunnis in Saudi Arabia only served to unite the people we ousted in Iraa with our own "allies" of the same religious stripe. Tell me what about the war between Christians in Northern Ireland made sense. If you're asserting that religion is not a sensible reason to engage in violence, I'd agree with you. But I don't think that's what you're saying at all. Tell that to the different sets of Jews in Israel....they themselves are having problems with their Orthodox being exempt from military service. Using religion as a cloak for violence and conquest and cloaking it in the guise of patriotism or some other such nonsense has been going on forever. Religion is the worst thing that has ever happened to mankind.

Minor differences between two sects of any religion does not make sense. I understand some folks cannot deal with small differences. Protestant found a pretty good solution with all the different denominations. During my life I have been a member of three different denominations. I was baptized a Baptist, found the Methodist church (my preference), and a short time as Episcopalian which did not fit my values.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 1:48 pmBut I'm pretty sure you don't consider Catholics or Protestants to share the "constant....is they make no sense." So much winning . . .Iranian drone boats blow up oil tankers
... The vessels were reportedly hit by Iranian remote-controlled boats laden with explosives while in Iraqi waters, with footage showing one of the tankers ablaze.
Iraqi authorities said oil ports had “completely stopped” operations following the attack, hours after Donald Trump insisted the United States had already won the war.
Average US gas prices have topped $3.50 per gallon. 14 days ago they were under $3.00.The attacks overnight sent oil prices climbing on Thursday, with crude hitting more than $100 (£80) a barrel, despite record releases of strategic crude reserves to dampen one of the worst oil shocks since the 1970s....
The aftermath of the attack on the oil tankers in the Gulf near Iraq - AP
The Marshallese-flagged Safesea Vishnu was hit in Iraq’s territorial waters - Mohammed Aty/Reuters
Looks like the fire is out, still may sink IMO.
That many attacked, I didn't know....The explosions came after three cargo vessels were hit by “unknown projectiles” in the blockaded Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important oil artery, on Wednesday.
On Thursday morning, another container ship in the Strait was hit near the United Arab Emirates, the UK maritime agency said.
... At least 16 tankers and other vessels have come under attack in the Gulf during the war, while hundreds more have dropped anchor due to Tehran’s threat to attack nearby shipping.
So, DonOLD lied, again. On Thursday, Chris Wright, the energy secretary, said the US military was “not ready” to escort tankers through the critical Strait of Hormuz, because all of its assets were focussed on striking Iran....

The US also did it in Afghanistan, with 2 subsequent administrations including TRE45QN's declaring "surges" that were going to be magically successful. We were there 21 years before our humiliating withdrawal.GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 8:19 pmTrump may be unable to end the war he started with Iran, even if he wanted to
Trump is now caught in the oldest trap of modern warfare – believing a swift, surgical military operation will yield quick, enduring political results. The Soviets did it in Afghanistan; the US in Iraq in 2003; Putin did it in Ukraine, and is still fighting.

Riiight, this will fix Iran.
Preparing for regime collapse, Reza Pahlavi urges Iranians to prepare for his ‘final call’
Pahlavi, working alongside allied experts, has also developed a detailed “Emergency Phase” plan for governing Iran in the immediate aftermath of the Islamic Republic’s fall.
"allied experts" - Did we learn nothing 46 years ago?
Good luck with that.... “Dear compatriots, we are now at the decisive stage of our final struggle,” he said, warning Iranians to prepare provisions and essentials “as soon as possible” and remain inside their homes for their safety.
He added that the people should “continue to strike and do not show up for work” and “continue on your nightly chants to show your unity.”
Pahlavi further issued a warning to members of Iran’s military and law enforcement still aligned with the regime, saying that this is their last chance “to break from the oppressive forces and join your people.” ...
Students supporting Reza Pahlavi chanted slogans in his favor across several universities. Furthermore, for the first time, they also chanted against the leftists, who are considered the primary rivals of the monarchists.
Great, replace one con regime with another. That will turn out well.

Re: Iran War
Perhaps a bad idea to park the air tankers tightly like that?
This is the most incompetent, incoherent war America has fought in the last 100 years. And that’s saying a lot. This administration has no idea what they are doing. There is no viable war plan. They change their goals and their aims every single day.
I have great sympathy for our soldiers and our military leaders. They are being given directions by a senile old man who is losing his mind. And so, it’s no surprise that this war is going horribly.
