The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Perhaps the best concert I ever went to.
I never got to see Pink Floyd live, but I saw the light shows a couple of times. Not the same, but still good.

On to a totally different direction, we saw this group a couple of nights ago on a PBS begging night. Really excellent. Celtic Thunder

I confess to having never been a fan of Janis Joplin other than her "Take a Little Piece of my Heart" song. Now Grace Slick is another matter.

I must add that I liked Janis' "Me and Bobby McGee" but everything else she did I consider marginal at best.

Janis sometimes had some marginal musicians playing with her, but nobody ever poured themselves into a song like she did. She is not Grace Slick, but Grace Slick isn't Debbie Harry, either. I'd gladly sit on an anthill to be able to listen to any of them in person.

Yeah, well, Janis I consider the female Joe Cocker; neither of them could sing worth a damn but the emotion they injected into the songs was the hook. And I consider Grace Slick to be on a higher plane than Debbie by a factor of ten.

Emotion is what it's all about. Cocker's Little Help from My Friends and Summertime by Janis are classics

Full screen:

Old Movie Stars Dance to Uptown Funk

66 movies. “the Golden Age – meaning no title later than 1953 (although there is one at the end.) Oh, and none of these clips was sped up or slowed down.”

Brilliant, I can’t imagine how many hours must have gone into production. :-||

"My inspiration came from":

100 Movies Dance Scenes Mashup (Mark Ronson-Uptown Funk ft.Bruno Mars)-WTM

Good, but I think Old Movie Stars is better, a lot more moments where I'm thinking 'Wow, how did they sync that so perfectly?' The student surpasses the master.
This is fun, too:

Sad, but kind of amazing that she made it to 59:
Rock and roll groupie and spouse
Battered her MLB player husband
Cokehead
DUI
7 boob jobs, AND
"had an adulterous affair with O.J. Simpson while he was married to Nicole Brown Simpson."

The article doesn't offer much historical detail, but #7 was implant removal on Botched, including the use of leeches to restore blood flow to one nipple.
