The Food Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

That's an expensive place. Lotta people at that time might only make $2.00 or less per day. It's a rich person's meal, fershure.

Same same, but I'm outraged that you're charging your "guests". 75 cents for turkey stuffed with chestnuts, c'mon. Sides, dessert and coffee might bring it to $3! I won't be attending this year.

Never tried it myself, but I've seen somebody else do it. Guy actually knew what he was doing and there was little drama but it turned out really good. Even so, I prefer the traditional roasting, if for no other reason than the fragrance it creates in the house.

Been putting them on the grill for 30 years, gas or charcoal. No clean up, great flavor, always moist, tasty and frees up the oven.

Grilled is good. I've done that a couple of times but with just turkey breast, not whole birds. Easiest turkey I ever had was one that came in a cook-in-bag. put it in the oven frozen, take it out a couple of hours or so later and it's perfect. Dunno why but I don't think they make those anymore. Probably killed a couple of rats or something.

For years I had smoked about a 12 pounder on my Green Egg. Inject with some "Emeril's" marinade and would come out so moist. Use mesquite wood chips. With weather this year I am glad I am not doing it.

Eggs are great, they can do anything. Buddy of mine had one, as well as the usuals we did pizza and bread.

Chicago deep dish is OK if you want a little variety, but the Detroit people should call their square version a "pizza-ish hot dish" or something.

Judge halts Trump administration efforts to impose conditions on SNAP

:---P
... In their lawsuit, the states argued the Agriculture Department has "thrown unconstitutional and unlawful roadblocks between the programs created by Congress and the States that rely on them, threatening critical nutrition support, vital agricultural research, and the safety of our national food chain and communities."
... SNAP is a major part of the U.S. social safety net, helping about 39 million Americans, about 1 in 9, buy groceries. Beneficiaries decreased by nearly 4.3 million from January 2025 to January 2026, according to preliminary government data released by the Agriculture Department. Experts say new requirements mandated by a massive tax and spending cut bill Republicans pushed through Congress last summer are the primary reasons.

The world is very confusing to me.
M&M’s to remove artificial dyes, eliminate two iconic colors

... M&M's plans to eliminate its blue and brown candies from the lineup.

Mars told The Wall Street Journal the colors could not be recreated with natural ingredients at a reasonable cost....
Weird. I can live without blue, but brown always felt the most "natural" to me. :headscratch:

Soaring US beef prices likely to rise further thanks to trade tensions and disease outbreaks

Disease happens, but for the rest - Thanks, MAGA

TIL that the name of a Margherita pizza has nothing whatsoever to do with my favourite cocktail.
